Question about hunting rules in Alberta

Shoulda seen the guy infront of me at Cabelas the other year. I think he bought every single tag they sold!

Until last year I bought one of every tag with a season available for where I hunt whether I intended to pursue them or not, usually that’s a half dozen tags or more, tags are dirt cheap and you never know. Easier to have it and not need it than regret not having spent the thirty or whatever bucks and having to pass on an opportunity you didn’t foresee. For clients outfitting I usually order every tag they have a chance of coming into contact with, even if they express interest only in one animal.

You can always carry a rifle and hunt coyotes while your friend hunts his tag. Or skunk.

That would be a hard no.

In general, Coyotes may be hunted year round on private lands and from October 1 until February 28 on public lands. During open big game seasons, the Coyote hunter must possess a big game license valid for that open season and management unit. The serious Coyote hunter should wait until the end of the big game season (usually November 30) when pelts are at their best and other hunters are not as active. An Alberta Wolf /Coyote game license is required.

Post 7 doesn't reference the regs. Something else.

For a non resident you need a Wolf coyote license. As an Alberta resident you don't need A license to hunt coyote.

Coyote – A Resident, Non-resident or Non-resident Alien who holds a Non-resident/Non-resident Alien Wolf/Coyote licence may, except in WMUs 728 and 730, hunt (but not trap) coyote

a) throughout the year on privately owned land and on public land in the White Area, to which he or she has the right of access to hunt;

b) on public lands in the Green Area to which he or she has the right of access to hunt, from the opening day of a big game season in a particular WMU to May 31, 2020 or until June 15 if the hunting is in a WMU that has a spring season for black bear ending on that date.

Other Animals
Porcupine, rabbit, hare, raccoon and woodchuck may be hunted, but not trapped**, without a licence throughout the province, at all times of the year. Skunk may be hunted and trapped.

There is no specific rule about what firearms and who can carry firearms in the woods or grasslands. You obviously can't hunt big game without a tag. If you are pursuing aniou are mals while in possession of a firearm, that seems like hunting to me, to a game warden, and to a judge. That said, if it's in an area where you can shoot wolves or coyotes, then you can simply be wolf/coyote hunting while buddy is deer/elk hunting. Choose your words carefully if you come across a law enforcement officer. Or just buy a black bear tag. I was up Beehive Mountain last fall and shot a nice blackie because two sheep hunters who got up there before I did didn't have a bear tag.

In Manitoba, at least, if you are wolf hunting in an area that has an open big game season, you need a valid license for that season.

Simple, buy the general whitetail tag and shoot coyotes and if you're lucky you'll find a shooter buck!

I hate "party" hunting. I know one family that does it, some times the tag holder is at home with his tag while someone else poaches the moose waiting for the tag holder to put the beer down and drive out a couple hours to tag it.
