question about K31

I just new to CGN. rightnow I have one Norinco SKS, Polish M44, and Browning X-bolt.

I think about get another milsurplus to built long range sniper rifle. after a lot research, I prefer K31.

TSE in Calgary, they still have couple K31 in stock, the price from 500-550. is this price reasonable?

is any other resources I can find K31?

for the reloading, what kind bullet we can use for GP11: .308 or .311?

Hi,
the k31 is a great rifle, but you could buy it for cheaper. There was tradeex that had some, but i think they are all gone for about 250$. I would look at p&s militaria or on the EE forum for one. You can trust P&s, he know his stuff!

If you're serious about building a long range sniper rifle, you're far better off starting with something like a Savage or Remington action. That said, K31s can be scoped with a no gunsmithing mount, but the scope is slightly offset to the right.

The K31s that TSE has are in better condition than most of the others on the market and are thus priced accordingly.

7.5 Swiss as used in the K31 uses a .308" bullet like most other .30 calibre rifles.

he's right...

there is one K31 on the EE right now, seems to be in nice condition for $300.

I wouldnt be so sure about that.

TSE has some of the GP11 factory match ammo. It is easily sub-moa. And cheap too!!!

I can shoot sub 2 inches regularly with iron sights with the K31. With that ammo and a scope youd be pretty well off, and have an amazing piece of history in your hands.

K31s are very well built too. You wont regret buying one!!

The K31s at TSE are mostly factory refurbished, so they are in great condition. The ones you find elsewhere for $300 are likely not in such good condtion.

Thanks everyone.

I just check the PS military, their K31's price about $300. I think those will be very reasonable.

Compare the PS military's K31 and TSE's K31 I would not pay $200, if they dont have a lot improvement.


For my long range sniper rifle, I prefer the Milsurplus right now, and next step will move to Savage 10FCP.
 
My K31 and M1911 rilfles are a pleasure to shoot, and very accurate. I got sub 2-3 moa with the 1911 and was a bit less successful with the K31, but it had more to do with my being tired that day than any failing of the rifle. The trigger on the K31 puts most milsurp and many commercial triggers to shame. I've picked up a no gunsmithing mount for mine and hope to try it out next spring.

The price will vary based upon condition and availability. I got two K31s from Tradeex when they were $265 ea, though the latter purchase had more blue wear and stock dings as their inventory diminished and only lesser grade rifles were available. There are lots of K31s that have really worn buttstocks (the cleats on Swiss Army boots apparently took their toll during drill practice) but even many of the well used examples (such as my second purchase) have pristine bores and should work just as well.

I got Graf's brass from BCRedneck.com and dies from Higginson's Powders. I just used regular 150 gr .308 SP bullets, WLR primers and the starting load of
H414 from the Lee Manual. Tradeex currently lists the brass.

I cannot say how it would compare to the commercial actions, but at about $300 for the rifle, $90 for the mounts and rings, and about $240 for the scope (Bushnell 3200 in 10x or 3x9), the setup will probably provide the most accuracy I can expect to get at that price.

I got a SIG made K-31 a few months ago and still have not found time to wring it up. But you can believe all that has been said here: it is a very nicely machined piece of metal.
Oddly shaped, well, perhaps, but once you shoulder it, everything falls in place and the rifle balances really nicely.
I'm pretty sure it will hold its own against some of my best Finn Mosins.

K31s are great rifles. The round they are chambered for is the problem. Not that it isn't accurate, it's fine. Finding loading supplies is the real problem. Once you have a decent supply of brass, you should be OK.

It's not exactly a milsurp but look at the Marstar site and check out the AIA rifles that they have on sale right now. The only thing you would need to be fully outfitted, is a decent scope, preferrably with AO. It is also chambered for the venerable 7.62x51 Nato (308 Winchester). All of the components are readily available off the shelf, including precision loading equipment.

If you're looking at getting serious about long range shooting, hand loading your own ammunition for that particular rifle is the only way to achieve its full potential. Be careful, once you get bitten by the "serious accuracy bug", you will never be satisfied with ordinary but acceptable groups. That, like it or not is true.

You want the cheapest POS K31 you can find or better yet, an already sporterized rifle. To do this PROPERLY you're gonna have to have to sit down with our friend Bubba and decide how many holes you're going to drill in that beautiful receiver. The clamp-on mounts work well enough for a quick zero and then a couple boxes of shells but an appropriate mount for a "SNIPER" rifle they are not. They've been reviewed elsewhere on this forum.

Once you and Bubba have hacked that together you can start looking for an aftermarket stock and the other tacticool junk you need to make a "SNIPER" rifle.

Then post pics on the Precision Rifle forum, cause she won't be a Milsurp anymore.

OR you could buy a nice K31, a case of GP11 and just enjoy the rifle as it is. They are really well made and make a great addition to any collection...
 
The K31 I bought from TSE is in fantastic condition... came with a matching serial # bayonet... It shoots very well with GP11... and I haven't started reloading for it yet because the GP11 is so cheap...

The TSE guns were not the same as the other K31's... the condition was much better, and they were priced accordingly... was the price difference worth it? I'm not sure... I'm certain any of the K31's out there would shoot as well... it just depends on how much you value beauty in your rifle!

If I was looking for a 'cheap' milsurp-ish target/sniper rifle chambered in a decent caliber, I'd look to a Swedish CG-63 in 7.62 or 6.5x55...

I like the K-31 I have (it is virtually as-new), but it isn't chambered in an easily obtainable caliber....nor would I bugger with it.
