Question about LE Top Folder

I was curious and was wondering if the LE "law enforcement" metal top folder shotgun buttstocks were legal to own?

They say "Law Enforcement Only" on the side of them and was wondering if us guys are allowed to legally have them now? Are they LE old stock and were once sold to the public for upgrades?

Just want to know as I am buying an LE shot gun and kind of want to know because I would hate to get stopped by a cop and have it taken away :confused:

But by the same token, I see them for sale brand new on the internet from dealers and they look identical, but I am sure it doesnt say "law enforcement only" on em...

You can only have a law enforcement metal top folder stock on your shotgun if the barrel is long enough for it to meet the minimum lenght required when the stock is folded.Too short is bad and illegal.
If having the law enforcement only stamped on it bothers you just have it restamped to say
"For civilian Law Enforcement only"

Folding stocks are considered as a modification and isnt covered like dlasks short barrelled shotguns with the pistol grip.Stupid laws, don't look for common sense or your head will hurt.

I totally know about the 26" rule.

I am just concerned about the "law enforcement only" on it, and if an MNR or OPP we're to pull me over on the way to a shoot or hunt and saw that I am just worried of it being taken away.. Because those words ARE pretty clear.. I am confused :S

I see you edited your post and added a line.

I don't think this is a modified gun, I am pretty sure it was a cop gun once upon a time. It has an 18.5 barrel on it, so I am sure even if I took the folder off and just went with the pistol grip I would still be legal. But I don't want to do that, only want to know if I can get in crap having that folder on there.

Just trying to be safe, rather then sorry ;)
 
The metal folders are one of the most evil concoctions ever to grace a shotgun. After you stop bleeding you'll probably want to look for a better stock anyway... :)

I was under the impression that felt recoil was far less with a folder? maybe not just this one?

All I want to know is if I am OK, like legally ok to have that on this gun. And if so do the MNR and cops know that it is OK?

Now my next question :D

Say I get pulled over by the MNR or Police. They see that written on the folder... what do I tell them in my defense, because I am just thinking to myself trying to picture me in the cops shoes and seeing "for law enforcement only" on there and taking it.

What could I say? :S

I don't know about that.

As I understand it, if the stock is a OEM part, like Pachmyers Vindicator pistol grip, all is good. :) A birdshead grip is a factory part and so is the Remington Top Folder you speak of. So long as you weren't the one to alter whatever stock.
 
It is not altered.. I am pretty sure this was an actual LE shotgun in the day. It's a Rem 870 with an 18.5 bbl.

My only worry that the folder WAS an actual LE folder and not something bought from a dealer. Just worried about getting it taken away. Does anyone know FOR SURE that I would be ok? and what I should do if I get in a position where mr officer is wanting to take my firearm?

Ask them to point out exactly where it says in the firearms act that this top folder is prohibited to own.

Call CFC for your own copy of the Firearms Act Regulations and Chapter 39 of the Statute of Canada 1995 and have them in your vehicle.
