Hi,

I know that MP5 is categorized as a prohibited weapon in Canada.

I want to know if it exists a non prohibited version of this weapon.

I know that there is a civilian version, the MP7...is it prohibited too? Is it in sale in Canada?

Thanks

The reason why the MP7 is not a prohib is because it was not specifically named in the list. The MP5 is prohibited by name so even a semi auto only version (which does exist) would be prohib.

The closest thing HK has that is like the MP5 is the UMP. There are a few restricted ones floating around. Other then that, The Famae SAF is also restricted and sort has that MP5 look.

I don't think there is a civilial version of the MP5 but I saw an MP7 restricted in the EE not a long time ago.

I remember questar was going to get a few of these a while back and it fell through as their source didn't want to see them in civvy hands...

GSG ( German Sport Guns ) makes a .22LR version of the MP5. Barell length is around
16", 9" barell plus a faux supressor that adds another 7" of barell I believe. Its a pretty cool looking gun. I have yet to find anyone that sells them in Canada. They sell them in the U.S. for around 500$. It would be awesome if someone brought these into Canada as they would be a really fun gun and cheap to shoot. I would definitely get one.

WOW. I can't believe they prohibited a .22. I'm really surprised. Guess its because it looks like an MP% but still someone needs to start getting more practical and realistic about what should be prohibited and what shouldn't.

one of reasons why GSG is prohibit is simply because it looks like MP5 and also some parts (externally) can be interchange, handguard, stock, pushout pins for examples

"...because it was not specifically named..." A firearm doesn't have to be specifically named to be declared evil.
The MP7 is evil because of its OAL and barrel length. OAL 23.23". Barrel length 7.09". That says restricted to me, but the idiots in Ottawa don't listen to me. If there are any here at all, it's most likely considered an MP5 variant and therefore prohibited.
You wouldn't likely be able to fiind ammo or brass if you could find an MP7, anyway. MP7 comes in 4.6mm x 30mm only. MP5's are 9mm.

I bet you not one of the wonderful people in Ottawa own a gun or have even fired a gun in thier lives. We need people with common sense and real knowledge passing down legislation, laws, and whatever else they come up with these days. I just rushed out and ordered a AR15 because I want one before they ban them. The 2000$ bonus I got at work helped make the decision a little easier too.

There are MP7's in Canada and they are restricted. They also trade for about 14,000 each. You can get ammo but it is rare.

The civilian version of the MP5 was the HK94 which was sold in Canada in the 80's and labeled prohibited as an MP5 variant on the same OIC the MP5 was prohibited on.

The GSG .22 verion of the MP5 is likely prohibited because it is a replica of a prohibited weapon and looks enough like one (almost exact copy) to attract prohibited status on a replica basis or a variant basis.

Common sense is not so common.

What about a Prexis P-7, they have a nice look to them, and their design is only "inspired" by various guns including the mp5. While not a direct clone or copy, but apparently something new altogether.

Yes that sucked. I was down for one of those. I seem to recall that the price point was also an issue for the source. But I'd have to try and find the old threads to confirm. Oh well. It would have been fun. I'm just hoping the Kel-Tec RFB makes it here.
