Question about necking down .308

Hello,

I am wondering about necking my .308 brass down to 7-08. Now, I did run some once fired through the 7-08 dies with no issues, but the issue I am having is the case length. My brass is ending up at around 2.015, problem being 7-08 is needing 2.035. My longest factory brass is 2.021, still ending up .004 short of the 7-08 trim length. So I am wondering, is it an issue to do this, or do I need to take another step? This must be a common occurrence for necking down?

No worries. Slightly shorter case will harm nothing. It will grow just keep an eye on it.

your fine, it will stretch after a few firings. I usually just trim the sized down 308 brass just enough to uniform the neck, then load as per normal 7-08 rituals

Unless you're crimping bullets having a short case length (unless exaggerated) won't cause significant problems.
