Question about "Re-Bluing" or an easy refinish for Norc 1911

Hey Guys

I have a new to me 1911. The previous owner had been polishing the bluing off and I like the direction it was going, but seemed to get off track around the front of the grip, trigger guard and bottom.

I want the round parts of the gun to remain blue or black and the flat parts to keep polished. Could I do an easy reblue touch up on these areas with out the need to go through a complete reblue process??

Thanks

The previous owner is a putz. That unfinished steel will rust without a finish, unless it's kept well oiled. Cold bluing isn't a great finish and it's not made for whole firearms. Look into one of the Dura-coat type finishes. Protects the steel and you can have a two toned gun if you want. I think there's one that looks like SS. Plus it can be a DIY project without spending a fortune.

quick and dirty way to strip the bluing off; white vinegar. A detailed and thorough strip and degreasing, then a bath in white vinegar, with a nice and high % of acetic acid. Pay attention, the occasional scrub, and the bluing starts to disappear!

But then you'll need to oil the steel fair quick; I did this to every part of my norincorino 1911 but the frame, now all the girls like me :dancingbanana:

I use the green 3M scrub pads to strip off blueing, it works like a charm.
PJ's blueing products work really well for a cold blue, he always has a table at the Orangeville gun show.

Thanks Everyone

Dont really want to get rid of the blueing, just wanted to see if there was a quick n easy way to "fix" the bottom part of the pistol with blue, like a touch up kit or something.

You could try touching up the worn area, but it may not match perfectly.
