Hello all,

Aside from the Trijicon RX series, what other reflex style optics are out there that are for real firearms and NOT airsoft? Looking to put one on a future pump shotgun. I've been unsuccessful using the search.

Reviews on any reflex optics are welcomed. I've never owned one, let alone fired anything with one, so I'm curious about how well they perform and don't want to go with an EOTech or Aimpoint for a shotgun- I'd rather keep those optics for the black and green rifles.

Thanks!

Meprolight M21 (as seen on Tavor rifles).

I have a Reflex II, works good, but the issue is when you are in a position of less light than the area you are shooting into, the dot's intensity is directly related to the ambient light, so if it's brighter in the target zone the dot will be very fainte. Mine has a polarized filter that can be tunned from light to dark, so this helps but the sight then becomes a one eye oculate sight (can't see through the sight).

For this reason an Aimpoint is way better, the biggest advantage of reflex is having no batteries, but since those days Aimpoint battery life has changed big time, so I don't see the advantage anymore.

any red dot would do for a shotgun. Main drawback of red dots is size of a dot and parallax shift. Rule of thumb is the more you pay for it the less chance you will get disappointed. But that is all mainly for rifles where demand for accuracy is greater. For shotgun any 50$-ish chinese red dot will work beautifully.

Shotgun?

For my Beretta, I like this :)

Mepro M21 is horrible if your shooting undercover. If you are in fact shooting out doors it's great. I just changed my Mepro, i'm happy without it personally.

Speed beeds are great. I have used them in the field many, many times and I can honestly tell you they kick ass. You can set them up for slugs or bird shot, very nice to have.

Aimpoint/Eotech's I have seen guys run them off their 870's and they work very well. Having used them for skeet they preform well.

I honestly wouldn't suggest you put a cheap $50 red dot sight on your shotgun. I'll tell you why, a lot of them arn't ment to stand that kind of recoil and fail a lot of the time, I have witnessed this first hand.

Nothing wrong with just Ghost ring sights, although they blow for shooting skeet, great for slug shooting. In the end it's up to you to make a choice what works best for you, and your wallet.

I hope this helps! Happy shooting.

Trijicon Reflex

I have a Trijicon reflex sight now going on 5 years old. It has killed a few whitetail atop a Remington carbine pump, and has killed some paper circles atop a .470 nitro express. It is simply wonderful!!!! It dims the dot as the light dims, and brightens it as the light outside increases so that it is perfectly visible, and never under or overpowered in relation to the ambient light. The only complaint? It sits a little high for my liking on most guns but is perfectly at home on guns designed with a high comb that don't align an eyeball well with iron sights (like most remingtons)

Great reflex, but pricey at $650.00 when I bought it 5 years ago after including the special base mount adapter and taxes.

That is one of the ###iest rigs I've seen on a shotgun. Will slugs and other higher recoil ammunition affect the accuracy? What do they cost, and where can I get them?

As Nine mentioned, it is a Burris Speed Bead. Recoil is NOT an issue....that one is sitting on my Xtrema II (3 1/2" Supermag), and the rail mountable version of that sight (called a FastFire) is rated to be mounted on the SLIDE of a 45 pistol.

Great sights, around 350 bucks with the gun specific mount.
