I'm starting to look into ARs... yeah, I know it'll become a money pit soon enough.

If I understand this right, the receiver is what is actually registered. The rest is just "dress up" and I can put whatever I want on there.

So technically, if I buy one(or more) of the Blueline 159.99 receivers, technically, I just "bought an AR" if we talk only about the paperwork. I can set it up anyway I want down the line.

I also want to pick one up in case they change regulations or some other crap and they end up grandfathered or whatever... cheap insurance in a way.

Just making sure I'm on the right track before starting to spend money.

Thanks.

Yes, it's just the reciever that's registered. So what happens if we ever get a government that confascates black firearms, and one has never gotten around to finish their project? Give em the reciever and hope for the best? And keep the reciept for the stripped lower. I guess. I think it's a good idea to keep whatever you have, which may become "grandfatherable" in the future. That's why I'm keeping my 13" barrelled Dominion 12 gauge. Just my opinion.

There is no provision in the legislation for additional grandfathering. If something is prohibited by OIC, it is confiscation time. If you want an AR, by all means get one, and enjoy it, but don't assume that having one will get you a prohibited class.
