Hey there, I found a really nice stock and fore-end on eBay that I would love to buy and put on my 1955 Remington 870 Wingmaster, however im still learning and am not sure if the stock and fore-end would fit my gun.

Here are some pictures of the stock and fore-end im looking at buying and of my shotgun, and hopefully someone could let me know if it will be compatible and if not what will be required to make it fit. Thanks alot all the help is appreciated.

Remington 870 12g Express Laminated Wood Stock Set ( The stock set I want to buy )

I can not say for certain that it wont fit nor can I say it will fit perfectly.
Chances are it will fit with some minor fitting at the wrist where it attaches to the guns receiver.
How much money are you willing to spend on such an experiment ?
You'll need a special tool to remove the current fore grip and tighten the newly installed one too.
If it is under a hundred I would give it whirl, but that is just me.
The laminated wood looks nice.

It should fit. You might also need a Stock Bearing Plate, I don't recall if the older version used it but the newer version does.

The newer 870`s (mine was an 1987 model) had a steel plate between the butt stock and the receiver.

You can undo the nut on the front of the fore stock with a set of needle nose pliers that fit in the two slots. You don`t need a special tool.

I have never had any luck except bad when trying it that way.
Bought the tool years ago , quite often the nut is rusted on...

I tried turning a nut with pliers once in a tool rental shop I worked at briefly. I earned the nickname "RoundOff"...

I just changed a stock set. The original spun off easy with a file tang that fit 1 side of the sloted nut. Try to remove yours first and see if it is easy or not.
