Question about short-stroking

I will admit it.... I am an AR newb. I therefore ask newb questions

Anyway, I've been reading the AR forums, and I see the term "short-stroking" quite a bit. I get the idea that it is related to misfeeds, but I am not exactly sure what it is, or what causes it.

Enlightenment please.

It's when the bolt doesn't travel back far enough in recoil to strip a round from the mag.
