Hey all,

New-ish to shooting and certainly don't consider myself anything close to being a gunsmith.

I'm curious to hear your opinions on shortening a barrel. The rifle is a Derya TM22 18" Barrel with a full hand guard.
I like the gun, and it works well, but I find it fairly front-heavy and would like something a bit more balanced.

I see in the past that Dlask offered shortened barrels, and Tommy Ent has short handguards. Dlask won't be selling any short barrels until later this year.

So the solution I see now is having a gunsmith shorten the barrel, and handguard for me, of course leaving the overall length of the rifle above 26"

Other options I've considered is getting the RF224 from Adler, or waiting for the rumoured 12" barrel TM22 to come out.

Open to any and all feedback.

Cheers!

For S&G... Some argue that because the wording of the law is

[a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,

(i) is less than 660 mm in length, or

(ii) is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,]

That even swapping out to a custom short barrel like Dlask made one creates a prohibited firearm. Because "any other alteration".

The only saving grace would be if there's a frt record for that barrel length... But the FRT is not law :p

You can’t legally shorten a barrel below 18”s. If shorter barrel is bought from a manufacturer it is legal as long as total length is above 26”. Our gun laws don’t seem reasonable sometimes.
And all the other times either. Our gun laws are a half assed collection of rules made by people with no knowledge or understanding of firearms. And even less understanding of millions of law abiding people who own and use them.

Our laws r retarded. Rossi Ranch hand for example. 12" barrel and 24" overall. Says on the box "Sell as Handgun" for our American friends and their retarded laws. Because public safety mkay

I'm sorry, are you COMPLAINING that the Ranch Hand is NOT a handgun in Canada?

FFS. Our gun laws suck but somehow you chose one of the only GOOD parts about the differences between American vs Canadian gun laws to complain about...

No, Gun hog is pointing out that our laws say cutting a barrel to less than 18" (457mm) and an overall length of less than 26" (660mm) makes a prohibited or restricted firearm and yet, the ranch hand is NR despite being under both those measures.

He is correct that our laws and many of the US laws are retarded beyond description. The US has slightly more consistency in their laws, but not much.
