I read this line in the regulations,

"rifles and shotguns that have been altered so that their barrel length is less than 457 mm (about 18 inches) or their overall length is less than 660 mm (about 26 inches); "

So if I change my shotgun and leave the stock as a full stock, can I cut the barrel shorter than 18 inches if the over length is over 26 inches?

It would help if you quoted the Statute word for word ...

(b) a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,

(i) is less than 660 mm in length, or

(ii) is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length.

What that means is if either of the above (i), (ii), conditions are breached, you'll have created a prohibited firearm.

Interpreting the law, it's important to read the law exactly as it is written and quote the whole pertinent sentence, not just a dissected part of it.

Catfeesh now? :D

But it says OR not AND, I think we have some people assuming the meaning of the law. ;)

Whenever you read laws, regulations, or rules and you find the use of a word or phrase like "or" could allow more than one meaning, if you assume that it is intended to mean more constraint and restriction rather than less, you will be right about that much more often than you will be wrong. Laws are generally not written to give permission to do something or to have something, but rather to forbid it.

Understanding the law is important.

The learning of the law is the fun part.

"Wait... what? That doesn't make sense. What about..."

It doesn't make sense, but it is. Marvel in it's wonderful stupidity and become stronger.

Legal debates among the AC's (Amateur Counsel)'s on here are good fun but I'll bet the mirth just dries right up, along with your bank account, when your t**s are actually in the legal wringer and your Lawyer and the Prosecutor are fighting over the crank .

No, it's you who is assuming (guessing) the meaning of the law. And unfortunately you are guessing incorrectly. You are obviously new to this sport, and while it's important to ask questions, it's even more important to listen to the answers. And remember - Internet legal advisors won't be there to pay bail for you if they're wrong.

If you have any doubt whatsoever, call CFP 1-800-731-4000 and ask them.

Very good advice, and funny too!
