Can you store a shotgun with shells in a butt or side saddle?

Technically its not loaded and the shells are in the mag...

so is it legal?

Thanks :)

AFAIK yes. The magazine remains unloaded. If you taped some shells to your gun I don't think that would fit anyones definition of loaded.

You can actually store a gun locked and loaded as long as it's secured and locked away from anybody that is not authorized to use it.

However, when transporting, it must be unloaded, on safe, and out of sight. At least that is what the safety course recommends.

locked and loaded.....?

Do we live in the same country??

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

i used to know everything like you once too!

now, i check out the facts before saying something so stupid...

you may store an unloaded handgun, in an approved, locked safe, with two full magazines.

You may want to check your facts again... Unless you want to show me what part of the law prohibits storing more than two loaded mags.

I'd have to recheck it,but, I seem to remember reading that ammo could not be in the same safe as the guns. Can tspt with ammo not in same case, if unattended the gun must be locked and hidden. Cannot tspt with ammo in gun, may have it in a detachable mag, but the mag cannot not be in the gun. On the gun, but not in a detachable mag--would not want to test that, may (likely) cost you lawyer's fees,unattended--definitely cost you a lawyer.
When in doubt--lock the gun if you are out of the vehicle, never have ammo attached to the gun while travelling, it just isn't worth the arguments and hassles or supporting lawyers. How the H do you think the Liberals created jobs when they were in office?

Holy Mother of God .... I was under the impression members on this website possessed a firearms license. Especially the ones offering what they're convinced to be facts.

I really believe newcomers should educate themselves with reading and searching on CGN instead of posting bunk 'n drivel.

Again and again ... a sidesaddle is neither a breech, a chamber, nor a magazine.

“unloaded”, in respect of a firearm, means that any propellant, projectile or cartridge that can be discharged from the firearm is not contained in the breech or firing chamber of the firearm nor in the cartridge magazine attached to or inserted into the firearm. (non chargée)

Exactly... You can have 50 loaded magazines in the same storage container as the firearm. There is this little piece of paper by the RCMP called the storage and transport regulations. That is what I would read and follow. Some of the advice given here seems like it will be very costly if followed.

As long as the gun is in a safe or securely locked room thats not easy to get into then yes you can. But to keep it beside your bed unlocked with ammo readily excessable (side saddle) you need to live in a remote wilderness area and that only counts for non restricted guns. you could also "display firearm safely" which means you could basically put a non restricted shot gun anywhere in your home as long as it has a trigger lock on it and its not loaded but the ammo can not be readily accessible so keeping shells in a side saddle would be a no go there. As for transporting thats a whole new set of rules. The reason i go into so much detail is because a lot of people here dont seem to know basic Canadian gun laws. If anything ive written is in some way incorrect please speek up but to the best of my knowledge what ive written is up to date current law.

That's the part that trips most people up....:(

Just bought a Tacstar side saddle for my 870, can't wait to put it on! Now the question is whether to butcher the stock forend or buy a aftermarket one...possibly a hogue forend.

Just put the hogue forend on. I noticed that after shooting a few slugs through, the forend left a slight rubber "skidmark" on the barrel. I read in a another forum, that you can epoxy tiny, thin spacers near the rear of the forend, between the action bars and the forend. Might have to give it a shot.

Oh yeah, the hogue one's are worth it : )
