Question about steel.

Looking at buying a Winchester model 2200 pump 12ga screw in chokes and hoped to use it for waterfowl. Is this gun safe for steel?
If not, are the other(more expensive Im assuming) non-toxic options safe?
 
Does a barrel need to specifically say it's safe for steel to be safe for steel? Would I be fine assuming I kept it under a certain restriction?
 
If you use the modified or improved cylinder choke it will be fine. Many will say the steel in the older guns will damage the bore over time. So if you don't mind the possibility of scratching the bore, go for it. Others say the shot is surrounded by the shot cup as it travels through the bore and doesn't harm it. There are thousands out there who are shooting steel through older guns and have had no problem. Even if it does mark the bore over time, how long will it take compared to how much shooting the average hunter does. The other alternative is to let it sit in the corner and collect dust. So it becomes a personal choice.

Hah, not a guarantee, just want to know if most of you folks would consider using steel out of it. Seems most of you would(with precautions) and thats fine for me. I've read about other kinds of loads (tungsten or bismuth or soemthing, I'll do more research later) that dont have the problems of steel.

I'll try to contact the company after I have the gun in my hands.

I just don't want to take a shot at a duck, have satan spring from the ground, destroy my gun and laugh at my foolishness.
