The way I see it is metal ammo cans cannot be that bad, countries all over the planet, have used them in every war since the contained cartridge was invented( maybe not but close to it). A cartridge is contained in the chamber, gas and projectile directed by barrel which also contains the gas as it is directing it. When a cartridge is in a fire, it is unrestricted, goes in all directions.
The difference in storing ammo in different containers is all personal preference, how much the wife will let you spend, or what you have at the time. The issue is the storage itself, not easily gotten into, not stored with the firearm....
The rest is just sand in the crevasse....
