I took apart my 590A1 tonight and put it back together, when I closed the action I noticed a gap between the bolt and the ejection port. I can't remember if it was there before or not. It looks as though the bolt is too short. Is this normal? Any input at all is appreciated.

When the action is in the closed and locked position, the extractor should visibly enter the recess in the barrel and no gap should be visible at the front of the bolt. At the rear of the bolt, the end of the bolt is visible and it might appear that there is a small gap between the rear of the bolt and the back edge of the ejection port. When the action is fully open with the bolt retracted as far rearward as it will go, the extractor is even with or slightly behind the rear edge of the ejection port. When the bolt moves forward, you should hear the bolt lug index its recess in the top of the barrel as it fully closes, in fact you can see it jump up into place. Do not attempt to fire the gun with the bolt out of battery.

Like the above poster mentioned it sounds like your bolt is out of battery. It's been a while since I've had mine apart, but it sounds like you might have set the bolt too far back on the action bars or put the locking plate in backwards so the action bars won't move the bolt far enough forward. Just a quick guess. Hope it helps
