Question about the M-14S.

So, I got one of the M-14s' from Marstar a couple weeks back and I've got a newbie question for you guys.

On this video it shows the trigger group being removed easily after the guard is moved upwards, on mine it will not come out.
Is this normal for a brand new m-14s and is there anything I could do to free it?

Make sure the hammer is cocked before removing it, or else the hammer will be resting against the closed bolt. You should probably engage the safety as well after cocking it.

Thanks, I tried again, it came out with the help of my brother.

And I found another serial number...
 
Removing trigger group

If the hammer isn't cocked, your trigger guard isn't going to swing out either. (In fact, once you have taken out trigger group, decock hammer, notice your trigger guard?)

Stick a piece of rod(multi-tool #####-er-rod attachment, or rod section or bullet tip, etc) in the trigger guard hole or using a piece of nylon wrap to pull the triggerguard hook out of the notch.

If you insist on using your hands, using both hands and place your thumbs on either side of the trigger and press back on the triggerguard. Use the other fingers to wrap around the rifle stock neck area and receiver.

Tie a knot in a short length of paracord. Feed the other end through the hole in the back of the triggerguard, and pull.

But the cleaning rod method works best.
 
i thought marstar was now including a manual with their m14s- it's right there on page 7 of fm23-8 , the dissassembly instructions- the hammer is always cocked first as it's part of the CLEAR YOUR WEAPON procedure-BUT I CAN SEE how it happens if you follow some of the ways you've been taught on how to clear the weapon- somewhere along the line i also was taught mag out, open bolt, release bolt, fire downrange as well- twice- this leaves you with a closed bolt, no mag- however the FIRST thing you do when you grab any gun is to OPEN THE ACTION and check for ammo, and that leaves you with a cocked hammer- the manual assumes this
 
with my trigger group,it was tight also when swinging the trigger guard down.what was really tough,though,was actually removing the group.i had to pry it out using a couple of screwdrivers.it appeared that the wood had grown around the rear "tang".it gets more loose every time you remove the trigger group.tight is good:)
 
that's just the chu wood- it tends to swell and shrink - it'll "loosen" up after a while- i've had mine since 1990 and i still have to "wiggle " to get the trigger group out- can be a you know what to get back in and latched too- no such problems with the 3 fiberglas stocked safequeens
