Question about the M14s shorty

Not neccissarily.....

Marstar is an importer. They do QC on each and every single rifle they sell.

All other "sellers" selling M305 or m-14 type rifles (afaik) get their rifles from one of 3 distributors.

Those distributors do no, repeat, no (or very little) QC......

So you may get a decent rifle or a steaming Pile of S.....

Marstar is the only current seller with a guaranteed warranty. All other sellers may or may not warranty the rifle on s case by case basis.

In a different thread, a few years back, on M-305 rifles Johnone stated that they know for a fact, that rifles they DQ'd (failed their QC testing) in China were then sold to a different distributor, sight unseen, shipped to Canada and sold......

Unless I can buy a rifle for a song, or do my own QC check on it before purchase, I will not buy a M-14 from any other supplier.....

I've personally had 3-4 dozen M-14 pattern rifles apart and tweaked or tuned.... The difference between a Marstar rifle and one from the LGS or one of a number of different suppliers is glaringly obvious!

Marstar rifles by and large need no tweaking. A gas shim and an op-rod guide and done. Even the sights are usually problem free!

Everyone else seems to need barrel indexing etc etc.....

Marstar doesn't sell shorties. According to Johnone (again in a different thread), they DQ'd almost every single Shortie they looked at...... So they did not bring any in.

So that is reason #1 why I will not buy a Shortie mail-order......

Canada Ammo offers warranty on their firearms as well. My brother bought a shorty a little while ago, The barrel was slightly over indexed, but the gas system was really tight. He shot 70 rounds till the first malfunction happened from the gas plug coming lose. Tightened it back up (was put back lose after cleaning)and she kept going, front sight is staked all the way right, rear sight works well. I just brought him a rail and a leupold 1-4 scope and installed it for him, ill be loading some hand loads for him to tighten its groups up, ill be using some hornady spiral points with some 4064. I think he will be happy with 1 moa to 500.

again, taking the words right outta my mouth.
I learned my lesson, it's marstar or in person, tho I remember a few years before I bought from marstar I used to get all my m14s rifles from Dark International. always got good ones too.
 
I have a 2009 Norc that I had Thomas (when he was M14Doc and still working on them) cut down and do his Scout package on (this was before the shorties were available) and it's a good rifle. Even before Thomas did his magic, it was a decent rifle that I used out deer hunting. Had zero issues with it then and none now.

Too bad he got out of working on M14's, I wouldn't mind picking up a 22" version to go with the shorty.

IMO if you want a M305 "shorty" just get one. If you plan on chopping the barrel give Casey (TacOrd) a call. He'll tweak it right
I was introduced to this platform via a Norinco m305 with the standard length barrel. Got hooked but wanted something shorter and and more refined…
One of my favourite range toys…Springfield M1A1 SOCOM 16.

I just took possession of mine as a second hand rifle. The previous owner had only put 10 rounds down the pipe and wasn't impressed with the way it shot with his UMC mount scope combo. He sold me the rifle without the scope and mount as he had lost the knurled mounting knob for the UMC mount, so I purchased and remounted a UMC scope mount and a good or decent quality scope on her for testing, took said rifle to the range and shot a few rounds through her. The scope mount proved to be worse than useless, as it continually tracked to the right no matter how much I tightened the mounting device. Finally, after fiddling with the mount for a few hours, I took the scope mount combo off and zeroed the rifle with Iron sites. I love this rifle and to hell with the scope mount. This rifle is a very accurate piece of kit (as far as a combat rifle goes) with Iron sites. Unless I can find a proven mount that actually works, I'll stay with the irons. Other than this issue, the rifle performs flawlessly with mil surplus ammo! If you want an accurate "sniper quality" rifle, you may as well look to a good bolt gun instead of the M-14 class rifle.

M14.ca CASM mount is excellent. I have one on my 2007 m305 22" and she is solid!!
I wish I knew this info before I got my m305. However I haven't had issues with it. Is there a way to tell who it was retailed by?
