Question about the name of a holster.

What are the holsters the police use called. You know the ones you have to twist the pistol to remove it? We had them in college when I was in police foundations but only for the blue glocks we had.

Do they make them to fit 1911 style pistols?

most are level 2 or 3 retention holsters.

Are they ok for IPSC? I mean, does anyone use them or are they totally useless? I remember after playing with it for a while I was able to get the pistol out every time without any problems.

not really meant for fast draws; more for rentention during a lot of movement (wrestling or restraining a suspect) and to keep a bad guy/slow a bad guy down- from grabbing the officers sidearm.

A holster for IPSC is used keep it secure when you are walking around. You don't have to wrestle anyone, and the brown target is the bad guy.

I would imagine a police officer or someone who carries for work would use there work gear, which is allowed in IPSC.

Safariland Raptor in level II, III and IV. As mentioned, it's for retention and they are expensive.
