we here in NZ get the 18 factory norinco's .. they have larger gas ports than the full size m305..

now in the specs it says that it fits the M1A and M14 and requires no permanent modification to the rifle..
i imagine this is only if you happen to have the 16" barrel installed..

regardless.. if i was to chop the barrel on my Norc some more ( which i can do in NZ ) would this fit ?

Norks have different thread pitch than the American 1's so no. I would recommend this 1 from Dlask;

Chop your barrel and make sure to leave enough length to put on your own muzzle deviece but I would choose an AR 15 thread pattern. Then bore out an 556 vortex to a 308 size. Once this is done any Smith 308 can will fit on your barrel but it will still be as short as you want.

well.. this actually saves me alot of hassle .. i was going to do a franken job on a norc FH to keep the front sights and still have enough thread to fit a suppressor/brake interchangably.. this part solves that problem completely

He did mine about 1 1/2 year's ago.

Wondering why you would choose an AR thread pattern and then bore the Vortex instead of just buying the correct Vortex? The can will fit both so what's the advantage?

When cutting down your barrel there isn't enough "meat" to have the different thread pattern done properly & safely. Also the 308 and 556 are almost the same except for the whole witch will be need to be bored out. Plus the sleave part that goes over the barrel is shorter on the 556 than the 308 version witch will give him the look that he is looking for.
