I just picked up a jc higgins model 50 and find it to be a very lovely rifle.

Any idea if a Commercial Mauser M98 Double Set Trigger will work in a jc higgins model 50? I would really like a double trigger.

Thanks

What you have is the original FN Commercial Action..Some of the later commercial actions my vary slightly. It should work but never having tried it I can't say for sure. Personally I prefer a single trigger tuned to about 2# depending on use. It is always the same and I believe gives a quicker lock time.

You have one of the sleepers of little known fine rifles there.

I have a 1953 Husqvarna on the same action. I had a Timney put in. The trigger beaks like thin ice now.

The trigger will work but not in the original JC Stock. The inletting for the original stock is completely different. Timney trigger goes right below and the JC trigger is an "offset"/two pieace affair.

Great rifle, i bought one last year and added timney trigger and a Boyd's stock. some pictures here: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1132500-JC-Higgins-Model-50-dressed-by-Boyd-s-Pics-Added

A J.C. Higgins Model 50 is an FN Commercial Mauser. Anything that fits one of those will work. Have to be fitted by a smithy though.

I have seen your post. I love boyed stocks, I have a couple on rim fires and will be picking one up for this higgins. I did seem to luck out on it, It was an incredible price. Im not sure what an FN action mauser 98 would run these days but the higgins seems to be a great value and well made.

The trigger install was a minor job, I had to do some inletting around the drop plate as I used bottom metal from another 98. I cannot recall doing any inletting around the trigger, may be a different story with a double trigger. Did you get scope mounts with the rifle? Mine had same screw spacing on front and back and I found a set of Warne Manufacturing mounts that fit. Grouse River have them in stock.
