Question about using Slugs in smooth bore, full choke

I'm new to the finer points of this stuff so plan to do my own trial and error.I purchased a few boxes of different branded rifled slugs to see how they group at 50yds with different chokes.

Bang On! FTGV. I was raised in the country and raised by an expert .22 rifle target shooter - my father, who gave me my one and only shotgun of that time period - a Cooey single shot 12 - gauge. He used to say that the .22 is a 100 yard gun in the hands of the right person - that single gauge full choked shotgun in the right hands is a 50 yard gun. There was not a lot of choices back then on chokes, ammunition, etc. so one ensured that the limitations of the day worked as far as ability, equipment, and hunting seasons allowed. That old shotgun, harvested rabbits, grouse(we called ém patridge then), ducks, geese and my first deer ( with a slug ). Your experiment will no doubt key in on the right combination for you, based on what is available at this present time. We made do and learned the parameters of the hunting experience with what was available to us, way back when. AND, you know what! I am quite pleased to be moving back to those simpler, antiquated days and shooting some of the older style guns made available through this site and others. Good luck to all of you moving forward, OR, backward and know that those lead slugs will work in a full choked barrel.

Tokguy, I am finding the newer turkey load ammo in that single shot ( still have it ) a way too much for this old shoulder, so now have a 16-gauge as well and no special turkey loads - just shortened my effective range from 40 to 30 is all. I think everyone should have cut their teeth on those old single shot 12's. Those old 3", 30" full choked smoothbores with Winchester 5's turkey loads sure create a great pattern though at 40 yards, but I bruised a lot with that load. Sorry to get off topic here but sure enjoying the discussion.

So it is lacking anything of value to add to discussion, but you felt the need to be one of the 'cool kids'...
Brilliant.

Don't you love comments about adding nothing to the conversation, that also add nothing to the conversation? Lol

If you are unsure, check the packaging the slugs come in. It should warn you against using a full choke if it's an issue.
