Hi folks,

I need some info on a Winchester 1894 rifle in 30wcf. Half octagon and and round barrel, half mag. serial number 475###. My question s are is this a rare configuration? and an estimate value for a gun in about 80%.

Can you post good quality close up pictures of the gun? It's difficult to put a value on a gun, just on the basis of your description.

Has it been modified in any way by gunsmiths or previous owners?
What is the state of the bore?
What is the length of the barrel? ( muzzle to front of open action)
Are the sights original? pictures?
Wood quality? Dings, scratches? Pictures?
Engraving?
Does the gun function smoothly?

Some answers - 1/2 octagon-1/2 round barrel was a special option. Likely also the half magazine.
- configuration is not common
- as Winchester factory records go to serial number 359,999, it can't be verified with them. Winchester polishing room records - possibly.
- estimated year of manufacture 1908 or 1909. George Madis' records of year of manufacture are not accurate.
 
Not extremely rare but more scarce than a full octagon or full round barrel.
Depending on condition and any more special order features(pistol grip, sights, checkering, grade of walnut, barrel length, 26 inch is standard) value could be from $600 to $5000 and up.
A friend has a 94 which I think is worth more than $5000, it's features are as follows:
Model 1894 takedown, extra lightweight
26 inch half round rapid taper barrel
pistol grip
checkered stock
3x walnut
shotgun butt
original sights
Original tang peep
.30 WCF
1899 Date of Manf.
Set triggers
It letters correct as having left the factory in this configuration.
It's the nicest 94 I have ever seen as well as having about 90% finish remaining, even on the action which is unusual.
Needless to say these are few and far between.
