I am looking at buying a Cooey .308 from a buddy. I would like to have this for two reasons:

A. There are not too many Canadian Made .308s and would make a nice piece for the collection.
B. I kinda want a .308 hunting rifle.

I was thinking of putting a synthetic stock (or just a replacement) on it and putting the original stock in storage as it has a small crack in it.
I assume that a Win model 70 stock will fit with no problems but I noticed the the Cooey does not have a hinged floor plate and every Winchester 70 I have seen does. So can a win 70 stock be found without a floor plate hole? or Can I just throw on a floor plate from a model 70?

Winchester made M70 variants with a blind magazine.
The Cooey 71/710 is similar to a M70, but does not use a true M70 action. Receiver is round, rather than flat bottomed. Apparently a M70 stock can be adapted to a Cooey, but it is not a drop in.
Why not just repair the crack?

the crack is now repaired, I just didn't want to PERMANANTLY alter the gun and I may restock it to a custom fit for my lady. Plus I am not a fan of non-checkered wood stocks in the weather.

The Winchester M70A stock goes on a Cooey M71 with a minimum of fuss. The recoil lug is slightly farther aft on the 71, but that's no big deal. Make the hole a bit bigger and bed the action. Other than that it drops in. The trigger guard is bigger on the 70A too. No big deal either. The rear screw holds the action in. Use the M71 trigger guard and forget about the front trigger guard screw.
