Wow what a bunch of morons. He was trying to figure out if the 'other guy' had cleaned it so it never looked like it was fired. He's not a ConMan! Ohhhhh brother, some people are so pathetic!

I think he was asking if it could be done because he suspects it might have already been done & he wants to know for sure. Can you but a gun that has not been test fired?

I think you may be right! If that is the case Mush, please accept my apology. I read your post as you were trying to clean the powder burns off the firearm, not wondering if your friend had done so.

Sorry.

The rifling is full of gliding material. This is a 40 years old Colt that I bought unfired from a fellow here 4 years ago. That was my ''precius''
My concerns is that the cylinder might have been scuffed. I don't remember if it was smooth has the exterior and nickeled like the frame.

There seems to have oil/powder residu where the barell fit.

I don't care about the ''don't buy from Mush''. These days my heart hurt.

I love my friend and I don't accuse him because the gun have been expose to others (sad story)

Just want your opinion about the state of the gun.

Mush

To my knowledge all North American and European "mainstream" firearm mfgr test-fire any firearms they manufacture before releasing from the factory.
The test typically includes a "proof" load cartridge. In many cases, they don't even bother to clean it afterwards (that would add to the cost).
It gets boxed and shipped in that state.

The high zut products will even include a test target :)

The cylinder and barrel look pretty clean to me from those pics. Only thing I can see is some oil residue on the frame where the cylinder meets the frame, just below the barrel, but that would be pretty normal if it had been lubed at some point. I find it's always hard to get into all of the tiny nooks and crannies on my Super Redhawk, and I see more places where even a toothbrush would have a hard time getting the dirt out of the one in the pics. Maybe your friend didn't actually fire it, maybe he just fondled it a little, opening and closing the cylinder etc.

Looks perfect to me. Your buddy might not like being questioned about it either. After all he did store it for you all this time. Life's too short to worry about dumb stuff.

To answer (what I now believe was) your original question:

Yes, powder burn marks can be easily cleaned from a revolver cylinder and frame using a little solvent and a copper brush or scrubber.

Looking at the pics, I would be surprised that someone who would so carefully clean the cylinder/frame would be careless about the barrel. Either way, if you are finding copper in the barrel, then I would suggest "Like New" is a more accurate description.

Also, unless you ran some copper solvent through the barrel before giving it to your friend (which you may have) you won't know when the copper was deposited; it may have been your friend, it may have been the factory, or it may have been the individual who sold it to you as "unfired".

Looks fine to me. Your buddy obviously did you a favor taking them for you for that many years....what did YOU do that you couldn't keep them yourself?
