9mm Major Update

Well have done more testing with 9mm major.

I have reloaded my torture test brass for the fourth time and shot it on the weekend. No problems with pressure, primer pockets are still tight. Going to reload it for the 5th time and try it again on the weekend. I am not anticipating any problems.

With another batch of brass, I made an adjustment to the load. I have reduced the OAL to 1.160 and am currently trying Federal Small Pistol Primers. Powder is 6.8 grains of Longshot pushing an Aim 124 grain bullet.
Power factor dropped to 168, due to the change in primer. This is a real accurate load and very soft to shoot.

Will keep you informed as I do more testing.

I have shot 38 super, 9x40, and now I am moving to 9mm major.

I have not experienced any problems that have been mentioned in this thread.

I have been torture testing the same lot of brass to see how many reloads that I can get out of it. I have reloaded the brass three times so far, with no issues. I am seeing no pressure signs on the load. Going to load it for the fourth time and head again this weekend.

My current load is:

6.8 grains of longshot
1.170 overall length
170 Power Factor

The load is very soft and accurate.

Going to continue to experiment and try some other powders.

I suppose that depends on how "serious" a competitor your are. In my view, shooting minor in open is not a problem until you start missing alpha. A "serious" competitor would shoot major only because of the potential (inevitable) point loss. I am thinking of going open minor next year because I shoot for fun. So I guess I am not a "serious" competitor. To each his own.

You can do well shooting minor in open or standard. I know two guys who made Master (before we had Grandmaster) shooting minor, one in Standard and one in Open.

It's isn't your ammo, it isn't your gun, it is and always will be the shooter. That being said there are adavantages to be had based on your equipment. That is what the rest of us shooters need.
