For all you guys with Rigbys and 458 Wins or Lotts. Are your guns crossbolted? How many rounds through them and are they holding up? On my previous Rigby I just bedded the front of the action and rear barrel chanel and shot it. I probably fired less than 150 rounds but no problems. I'm about to start shooting another one and was going to crossbolt it but I thought I'd ask how others are doing. On other forums it seems they're splitting in the first few rounds. Hopefully some of you have several hundred rounds fired.

I have a CZ 550 in 416 Rigby. It has several hundred rounds down the tube. I bought the "field grade" stock, this is the plainest one. It has no cross bolts and nothing has failed yet.

Having said that I just sent mine off to get two crossbolts installed because I am concerned that this may happen.

My 602's stock failed and I exchanged it for a McMillan, that I had bedded. While the recoil was not quite as strong as my .416 Rigby loads, some of my .375 Ultra loads produce recoil that is fast and hard.

Relieving the tang, cross bolts, and pillar bedding of a wood stock is a good idea in rifles chambered for powerful cartridges. IMHO, cross bolts that extend all the way through the stock are superior to those that are inletted in the bedding.

Thanks for the replies guys. This gun is relieved at the tang and rear of trigger guard. I'm going to go ahead and have it bolted. Was going to get the kit from Brownells and do it myself but its got a real nice piece of wood and for my first attempt at going right through this probably isn't the gun.
