I had a look at an Enfield that looks like it was made from a Long Lee,it has the bolt cover and the safety on the end of the bolt. The barrel is not as long as a Long Lee and it still has the volley sight attached.
There is a the name "Andrews" on the top of the receiver just before the barrel. What the heck is this rifle anyways??, No pix but have to get in touch with seller after he gets back from hunting up north.

Enfield?

Best guess with out pics is a non-official conversion of some kind, maybe smaller gunmaker. Assume still in .303 and not one of the early .22 trainers made to simulate the new SMLE's? Does it still retain its Long-Lee bayonet lug arrangement?

"Andrews" was a maker in Scotland. His firm like "Martin" and others accurized Enfields for Bisley competition. Would be an interesting rifle to examine. There should be some special bedding beneath that wood which greatly improves long distance accuracy. Post some pic's if you can and I'll offer you my comments.

It is a sported commercial BSA made MLE. It would appear that the butt is a replacement (short top strap on buttplate), as is the magazine, maybe triggerguard (no provision for magazine loop) and the front end has been cut, of course. 100 odd year old .303 that is what is. Probably not practical to try to restore it. If the bore is good, should shoot just fine.

I fired some factory rounds and it has no headspace issues and shoots to point of aim with 2 different bullet weights. The grooves are a tad dark but the rifling is still strong and everything matches. it's not a $1000 gun , but I like it and will likely have it in the truck for when the need arises. Ya never know when you might need a repeater to defend yourself against a herd of rabbits..........
