Question for Hornady Lock n Load owners - Titegroup and Powder baffle question

Is it critical to use the powder baffle in the case activated powder measure when using titegroup?

I have tried with and without using just titegroup and find without the baffle the charges seem to be very consistent, usually dead on but occasionally within 0.1 grain of my target load. With the baffle in there seems to be a bit more variance, normally by 0.1 but often up to 0.2 grains, very seldom is the charge dead on.

Is the baffle just meant to ensure consistent throws when the powder volume is low in the hooper or at all times with all powders?

I have only loaded when the powder hopper is either full or near full. Do I need to check the charges more often as the hopper powder volume gets low if I don't use the baffle?

I have of course degreased the powder measure and baffle per instructions by Hornady and there is no powder sticking to the baffle that I can see.

Thanks in advance for any info that can be provided.

I use the baffle, but then 'm using ball powder that flows like smooth sand (CFE Pistol and H-110 at this time).

I believe the baffle's purpose is to take up most of the weight of the column of powder so that you don't get a "compressed load" in your rotor measure when the hopper is full, vice a less dense load with a lesser charge when the hopper is almost empty.
