Hi all

I have the following Hatsan Model 33, .177 495 fps. Very solid feeling, fit and finish very good, feels just like shooting full sized adult rifle (minus the recoil.)

Havent done any serious accuracy work with it yet, trigger is a bit heavy. Gonna swap out red dot with Bushnell Sharp Shooter 4 x 32 I have sitting in a box here not being used.

My questions are this.
Can this be used for hunting? Im thinking rabbits, BIG blackbirds, might be ravens (they are attacking my morning doves), squirrels. If so, how far out can I expect to make a clean kill?

Can I upgrade this to a 700-1000 fps gun by swapping out the spring? I have my PAL and know I would have to register it once I go over 500 fps.

OR
I've been looking at the BAM 30 (.22 680 fps). Would this be overkill for my intended prey?

thanks for your time

'backyard garden gun' thats kinda what I thought too, thanks for the confirmation :)

Pretty big mosquitos around here, should be able to take them down with no problems :sniper:

I'd be confident enough taking a shot at something with that, so long as it was close and you are confident of your shot placement.
I know a few breadcrumbs on the banister can bring those crows in close enough use a non-pal gun.
Those BAM B-30s are a hell of a decent gun, a decent copy of a nice gun. You need to get spendy on a decent scope with magnum springers though.

Cheers,
Grant

It's a marginal airgun for the bigger stuff. In a non-PAL air rifle, a Crosman Phantom in 22 at 495fps would be a way better choice for larger birds(crows, partridge) and rabbits.

Woodsman, thanks for your input. I think I need to step up to a PAL gun, BAM looks pretty good, just need to pick the model now.

Not exactly, the 22 cal @ just under 500 fps will get -r-done. The makers I would choose from, Diana/RWS, Beeman, HW, BSA, Webley, theirs more, but a good place to start...
Get a German or British made Air rifle, you will be a happy camper, all others , well you may still do ok...

I agree on the German and Brig guns however money is a bit of an issue at the moment, thats why Im leaning towards the BAM, trying to stay under $200 including scope :D
