Question for Landowners and Hunters about Conservation

Only those farmers who want to clear every spec of land they own just so they can buy an extra cow or two. Like I said, the animals won't have anywhere to hide soon. I'd like to say that If you don't care about Canada's natural habitat and wildlife, that would be your own problem. However as loss of habitat starts killing the natural wildlife, it becomes everyone's problem.

How many cows should a farmer own?

You're delusional if you think farmers clear land to buy two $600 steers lol

Farmers clear land so they can continue to make a living while inflation drives the cost of everything up

Perhaps. But I also know of some farmers who are quite literally millionaires, don't owe a dime to the bank, and STILL clear land to make more pasture or farm land.

I don't have the answers, obviously. I'd be a millionaire and be living in Jamaica or something lol. Maybe more advancements on synthetic foods, or perhaps creating even higher crop yields from the same amount of seeded land. I DO know that something needs to be done. We're losing more and more natural habitat every day just so people can make more money. I'm not arguing that people shouldn't have the right to do what they want with their land, however I believe there needs to be more care and respect for wildlife and what they need to live and survive, and a frame of mind that realizes that all the money in the world won't bring back what is destroyed.

So why demonize farmers?

I guess you could say being a landowner also carries responsibility. You have to weigh the ability to promote the health of habitat and wildlife with the ability to make greater cash flow. I guess if you think clearing those last acres of brush on your land is worth the money you'll make, then that is unfortunately your prerogative. And I'd gladly pay a monthly fee to retain good land for wildlife.

Would you be just as glad to pay for land you couldn't hunt on? Unfortunately I can't charge you or anyone else to hunt on my place even if you wanted to pay, or I wanted to charge.

How about supporting a wild plains bison herd that no-one can hunt including me? I'm doing that already. Antelope that I haven't had a tag for since the nineties? That too. Mule-deer and moose that I have to wait for a draw-tag for like everyone else? I could go on, but then everyone would start crying and sending me blank cheques.;)

I like leaving the place(s) in their natural state, but that's just me.

That's great to hear! We need more like you :)

Why don't I charge an hourly rate for hunters on my land? Would you guys pay that??

I would gladly accept cash donations that would help pay the taxes on my virgin and otherwise useless bushland.
I would even let said donor camp on it. If they happened to go hunting, that might be ok too.

How about we focus more on the Fat Cat, land developers, many of whom are former or currently are politicians; who are buying up tracts of both natural and farm land, to build massive housing developments on? Just who are these developments for.........the mainly leftist, urbanites, who tend to support the anti-gun lobby. Its not just wildlife habitat we lose from this 'urban sprawl'; how many old established gun ranges have we lost because of these developments?
