Question for the 7.62x54 reloaders

I found some Norma 130gr .311's at a gunshow...........but I think I'm feeding them to my SKS for deer? They would be moving from a 91/30 though...........Harold

Yeah, Hornady makes Interloks at .311, 123gr. They work pretty well in the SKS, never even thought to use them in the Mosin... What powder would you use?? Something fast, I would imagine...

Anyone have any luck shooting the standard .308 round out of their MN. So far finding .311 and .312 size projectiles is a little on the tough side. couple hundred of each in 150-and spitzer would be a nice find.

I've shot Wincheset bulk 180's out of my M44 with a tight bore (.311) and they shot fine. I've also shot them through 2 groove Lee Enfields and they have shot as good as .311 bullets for me.

I'm thinking any fairly long .308 bullet with a flat base is a fair candidate to try in a .311 bore if you can't find any .311 bullets.

Right now though, with MFS 203 grain SP ammo being available $13 per 20, I'm not reloading for my Mosins. Just not worth it.

This. In my experience, long, flat-base bullets offer the greatest likelihood of success in rifles known to be "over-sized", e.g. Mosins and Lee Enfields.

My MN slugs .311" and will shoot .308" bullets all day. Flat base or boat tail doesn't seem to matter in my case (though flat base never worked in my LE well).
I may be getting lower velocity if gas is leaking around the bullet but I get the same (poor) accuracy as with .3105", .311", and .312" bullets.
My optometrist says I have the eyes of a 40-50 year old and with the original sights I can shoot ~3" @ 50yds and ~7" @ 100yds.
I prefer H4895 for mine for all weights but sometimes use H4831 with 180's if I feel like saving my H4895 for other cartridges. Can't tell any difference at the range.

I've had great success in my Finnish m91 using hornaday .312" 150 grain flat base spritzers and IMR4895.

I won't give you my specific loads cause every gun is different and my 91 has a longer barrel then the 91/30 so it works well with lighter charges.

My 100 yard groups with the above components are usually 1.25"-1.5" at 100 yards.

I found a box of Hornady SP in .312 have worked up a load with varget and CCI-BR2 in Lapua 7.62x53R brass. Works very well out to 500 yards not right on with the numbers on the scope cam but in the middle. So it is easy to return to the yardage. The no clicks took a little getting used to though. Once i go through all of the brass once so everything is fireformed, I will see if I get any changes in my sighting or velocity since the brass has a very slight difference to the 7.62x54 Russian brass.
