I recently acquired an L61R Finnbear in 30-06 with a serial number in the 504,000 range. Checking with SAKO's serial number dating, that should put it in the late 1974 to mid 1975 range, however there are no Garcia import markings on the barrel. Could it be that this one was originally purchased outside North America? I checked the sakocollectors.com site but haven't found an answer. Thanks for any info.

Check the sides and bottom of the action (out of the stock). I just acquired a forester, and the Garcia marking is on the action, not the barrel.

I've got nothing. On underside of barrel just ahead of recoil lug there an "A" and on left side of action there's "L61R No. 504###" a crown symbol and the letters "RA".
With stock off, it says "MADE IN FINLAND" also on left side of action. Also says "Finnbear Made in Finland" on left side of bbl and SAKO Cal. 30-06 on top of bbl. just ahead of front dovetail. Nothing on underside or right side of action.
