question for the shottie experts SW model 3000 versus Mossberg 590

I might have the option of trading an old Smith and Wesson model 3000 with crossed out OPP markings on the stock and on the rcvr.

Its in good shape and the wood is mint. But it only shoots the old 2 3/4 inch long shells. But still its a great old gun with some history I guess.

A friend of mine is offering to trade me for his Mossberg 590 that comes with the heat shield, the bay lug and mag extention and he has added a side a side saddle for extra rounds. I really like the look of it unfortunetly.

Just curious what you all think, both guns are in the same shape but I dont know much about the mossberg, actually dont know much about either to be honest.

How do the two add up when it comes to a trade, how much would the Smith be worth and how much would the mossberg be worth.

value of the S&W 3000 and the used 590 should be approx the same +/- $75..... I would keep the S&W for nostalgia reasons though

The question to ask yourself is 'Am I going to shoot 3" shells and how often'?

The S&W is a modified Rem 870, and a very good shotty.

The 590, is very good.

I would keep the S&W and buy the 590.
