So I have a Canadian edition sp01 and it has a bunch of hamer,firing pin and main springs. Is there a way to tell what weight they are by look and length? Thanks for any information.
 
Ya for the hammer spring there are two that are the same color but one is longer. And one is silver but I can't really notice a differance in how hard the hammer Is to pull.
 
If they have the same wire diameter, color and same number of turns per inch, then the longer one will give you heavier trigger pull. You can only measure the difference in trigger pull using a Trigger Pull Scale/Gauge. You really cannot feel the difference by simply hand compressing the spring unless the difference is at least 30-50%.
 
I have a #### ton of springs for my tanfoglio that are all mixed together....to my knowledge there is no way to tell them apart....no colour coding at all
 
I have a SP01 as well and when i started modding with springs and such i immediately put them in respective zip log baggies that are properly labeled in fear of this exact problem. Sorry to hear bud
 
If you just wanted to know their relative strengths, you could make a simple test rig by using a tube and plunger from something of the correct diameter - pvc piping or other rigid pipe. You place the spring in the tube and the "plunger" on top with known weight (can of coke or pepsi), measuring the change in height. The lower the can drops the weaker the spring. You can calculate the spring rate by measuring the drop and using the weight of the can to calculate in/lb or other unit of measure. Sometimes length can be deceiving as an indicator of spring rate as the wire diameter and metallurgy will affect its rate.
