question for those using eotechs & magnifiers

So I have the eotech, looking at buying the 3x magnifier...

is there any sort of focus piece on the magnifier?

My eotech gets blurry if I don't have glasses on, wondering if it can be fixed by using a 3x.

if you had the $ would you go the same route (eo + mag) or switch to a 1-4?
 
If you focus on the reticle it will blur. Focus on the target and the reticle should be crisp. That being said, I've run the EO+magnifier setup before and wasn't a huge fan. Works alright but is nowhere near as nice as a 1-4 or similar.

I have run every permutation and combination of Eotech, Aimpoint, magnifier, etc. at Service Rifle CQB, carbine courses et al....and...
I have also come to the conclusion that a 1-4X optic outperforms the red dot + magnifier combo.
I either run a red dot....Aimpoint micros...or one of the 1-4X units.
I quite like the Elcan Spectre 1-4x, which can have return to zero issues, as well as the Nightforce 1-4X, but a lot of the less expensive units...Burris, etc., can also work quite well.
I would really like to go with the more recent Bushnell 1-6X...seems substantial with decent 'glass', but at $1500 retail it is overpriced by at least 50%.
These conclusions are totally subjective, and the only way one can see what's best for themselves is trial and error....
If you buy the items of interest used, then you can always flip them without taking a bath.
Just my $0.02.....

I don't want to blow $ on a sh*tty 1-4 when I already have the eotech.

How is the glass on the magnifiers?

Ideally, I'd love to go with sightron's 1-7x beast.
 
I found the magnifiers to have excellent glass. The issue is you can't focus them(if that's an issue for you) and they have short eye relief and a narrow field of view. It is a compromise not an ideal solution so the limitations aren't a big deal.

If you can afford it, I would sell the Eotech and get a SpectreDR. I have one and I don't notice any zero shift. I'm not easy on the rifle either. In my experience, it is by far the best 1-4 optic I have used. Aside from the weight, its flawless.

This issue has been discussed. The Elcan is grossly over priced, its not a 1-4 its a 1 OR 4 optic. The adjustments are 1/2 MOA which is far too coarse for competitive work, and the eye relief sucks. Not to mention its heavy.

I ran an EOTech and 3x Magnifier operationally. It worked wonderfully. Perhaps not the best for a range gun - but it suited the environment that I was in almost perfectly.

I've used 1-4x Optics of various sorts. NF, S&B, Vortex, etc. I'm not 100 percent sold on them being "better" - but I have limited experience with them.
