Question for those with a Boyds Savage Rimfire stock

If your gun has a wood stock now it should just drop in and use your trigger guard and mag plate, if you have a synthetic stock you will need to buy a trigger guard and mag plate.
I have not used a Boyds stock for a Savage yet only 10/22's but do have one on order right now for my 93R17 FV-SR and that's what I found on my research. Also saw mention that sometimes longer action screws are needed but not sure in what application or configuration that is for or if it is even for the new E series or not.

it'll drop right in, longer screws maybe required depending what you currently have, and can be ordered from boyd's or savage I believe
if anything, boyd's really over inlets, at least on my savage stock....be very careful to not over torque the action screws, torqueing to 15 in lbs my stock sounded like a beetle kill forest in a wind storm...
my gun still shoots accurately but will experience poi shifts now and then, the action channel will visibly open up a hair wider if over torqued

No - bought my 93R17 (BTV) with the "factory" Boyd's thumbhole stock - was way cheaper than getting the recycled coke bottle stock and then paying the cost of a Boyds in the aftermarket. Always cheaper to chuck the 50 or 100 extra bucks up front then pay the (now) close to $250 CDN later.
That works fine 'if' that is the Boyd's stock you want and the action and barrel combination you are after is in it from factory, but if you want something different from what is offered then you have to get the parts and make it yourself.

I agree but i bought my savage used so that wasnt really an option.
I did this a few years ago:
Pre-accutrigger Mark II action with a heavy Shilen match barrel into the Boyds thumbhole stock. It was a fairly sloppy fit IIRC and I had to remove a bit of wood for the safety because the old action is slightly different than the current ones. I bedded it with epoxy and it has been 100% since.

You first have to determine if you have an "E" receiver or a "Pre-E" receiver... they receivers were redesigned mid-2008. Boyd's only inlets for the E receiver... so if it is a Pre-E, it will require minor inletting.

The gun was bought last year from Cabelas (which is what the seller told me). It is an accutrigger model so I assume that will be an "E" receiver. So will I need a new trigger guard and mag plate for this model?
I think there is a way to measure to see what recvr you have. IIRC 7-3/4" action indicates an E model.
