Question for Tikka haters and lovers

600$ for a T3 Lite in 300WSM. Should I?

Context: I'm mostly a handgun shooter, don't know much about bolt action rifles, just got my hunting licence, wants to start hunting next fall (dear and black bear, lots of both in my area). I see T3 goes for about 900-1000$ at Cabela's, lots for sale at the 700$+ price range in the EE, and I'm offered a brand new T3 Lite for 600$ (local retailer, fire sale due to incoming inventory of T3x). Looks like a good deal to me, but my safe is overflowing with pistols and revolvers, so what do I know?
 
But how much is overpriced?

Let's suppose you're at a gun show, and the vendor is asking for 1000$, I would guess that's too much. If you can haggle and then you can get it for 200$, I would guess it's not overpriced (worst case you can sell it for 201$ on the EE and pocket the difference). So is 600$ (right in the middle of 200 and 1000) for one too much or it's still overpriced?

Again, I have no clue. I keep hearing they're overpriced, but I also keep seeing them priced at 1000$ (so I would guess 1000$ is overpriced), so the 600$ deal might be a steal or it might be a trap, I wouldn't know.
 
$600 is a good deal, I would not hesitate, I just sold a 300wsm unfired for $650, I have a 338 and a 308 in a Tikka, if recoil is an issue you may want to go a different route.

My opinion is that at $1000 they are overpriced. At $600 they are $150 under priced. So go buy it for $600 before someone else does.n Bit yeah,; a 300WSM T3 will kick a bit, and it's not like ammo is cheap like a .308

I think $1000 is too much, too. I also think $1600 for a Ruger Scout is ridiculous, $800 for a Savage 110 is crazy, and $850 for a Weatherby Vanguard when they were $525 just 3 years ago is insanity.

Tikka was the first to raise their prices to the now universal insane level, and they bought themselves a "too expensive" label by doing so.

Tikkas are fine. They are made well, work well, are light and are readily available. In the absence of preconceived notions, anybody could be reasonably happy with a Tikka.

This is also true of the Browning X-Bolt. Of the two, I prefer the Tikka, but would be reasonably happy with the Browning. I doubt it's a coincidence that the X-Bolt and the T3X cost almost exactly the same.
 
$500 is what a t3 should be priced at. $600 isn't bad either. But there are a couple of us on here that have got bad shooters. I paid 600 and some dollars for mine but after a new barrel it is going to be expensive. Could have bought a better (non budget gun) and saved money.
Would I buy another one? If it was priced at $350-400 I'd consider it but would probably go savage as I can change the barrel myself
 
Tikkas aren't really anything special, just a well made utility rifles... though they can be VERY nice, like the Sporters and Tacs or the wood-stocked Battues. Since they're more of a 'bread and butter' rifle, 99% of the owners aren't likely compelled to start posts about them or even bother to comment. It's always the small percentage that either got a lemon, fu*ked something up and called it a lemon, bought somebody's crap, or are just expressing their opinions-based on experience or "internet experience" that seem to chime in the most. You simply cannot go wrong with a Tikka. $1000 too much? Perhaps you haven't noticed the Canadian dollar nose dive or the fact that everything has gone up in price. $1000 for a high quality, straight-shooting rifle isn't a lot of money anymore. If you want a bargain, there's plenty of delicately used quality rifles, or perhaps look at Howa 1500 in the $700-900 range or the Brownings. The rest of the sub-$1000 rifles won't ever be recommended by me.

I decided to buy it. Added a limbsaver.

I would definitely have prefered a 308, due to cost of ammos, but I already have a whole setup to reload my pistol ammos, so I guess I'll start reloading for rifles too.

I figure the worst that can happen is I hate the rifle and sell it on the EE for a minor loss. The best that can happen is I fall in love with it, marry it, then we have a bunch of little pistol and revolvers and live happily ever after. jk. Anyway, thanks everyone.

99% hey....seems to me that tikka fanboys will go out of their way to shout their love from the rooftops.

You made a good choice at 600.00...it will never be worth less than that I doubt. So if you decide it's not your thing, you get all your money back. Don't worry, I don't think you'll lose a dime on this one.
 
That's a good deal for the rifle. A 300WSM in the lite will kick so be prepared for that. I found that a Limbsaver was really good at making the recoil more tolerable, as well as using a PAST recoil halter was beneficial.
 
I think you spend more time complaining than I do singing the praises... and somebody has to counter your negative opinions on Tikkas, especially when it does not reflect the majority of users. Admittedly, I love mine. :)

I didn't say anything negative about the tikka here.

What I did say was at 600.00, it's a great buy.
The M70, M77, and now the Kimber hunter are in tikka T3x territory. In my opinion not much of a choice there...unless you're debating on the first three.

I bought my tikka at a great price as well, it will become a good custom and I have no regrets on the purchase. Would I ever spend 1k+ to get one in factory trim? Never!

And most people spend a lot of time complaining that remington and marlin quality is gone. There needs to be the good and the bad talked about. I have no doubt that most of them are good but there are bad ones around and with what you read online it is that there are zero bad tikka made. Just isn't true like it or not. Same goes with any brand. I know a guy that has had bad luck with cooper as well and they are over $2000 still worth talking about.
 
$600 is a good deal. $1000 would keep looking unless they guarantee close to 1/2 MOA.
Happy with my CTR, shoots 1/2 MOA, but that is more than $1000.

Have you put a scope on it yet ? If so what ... or what are you thinking of ?

I wouldn't get into reloading for the 300 WSM just yet, or at least until you've run a couple of boxes through it.
It's decidedly NOT a target rifle, and I doubt you would need any more than a box or two each year for sighting-in & hunting.

Pretty good cartridge for moose and, if you're heading west, elk too.
