Question for Tikka haters and lovers

A great value at $1000?

Yes. Is there a better rifle for that price? I have other brands i like too, i dont have a comparable priced rifle i think is better. Its miles ahead of slightly cheaper guns like the sps of which i have 2. My cz which seems much more old world and expensive to make isnt any better. In fact its not as good imo, although i still like it

I have only owned three T-3 rifles , stainless varmints in 223rem, and 6.5x55, and a tactical in 223 that I purchased NIB for a great price. All three had good triggers and all three shot five rounds into less than 1/2moa. I sold two of those rifles for more than I paid for them, and I still have the varmint in 223rem. Overall, I have no complaints at all.

While not better, the weatherby vanguard s2 is $720 at Cabelas...... and in my opinion, it's just as good as the updated Tikka and better than the older Tikka with that plastic bolt shroud and floating recoil lug.....

Don't get me wrong, I think the Tikka is a serviceable rig and my comparison with the axis was more a "what are you getting for the extra $500 type of thing"...... I still don't think they are a $1000 rifle...... even with today's prices...

All bolts are stripable - but vary in complexity.
Remingtons aren't stripable? Lol. They are one of the easiest.

Ok, there's a boot lace trick. Interesting. I would say it's easier than Browning becuase the tool is readier to hand, and about on par with Ruger, Sako and Howa (all of which I have). It is undoubtedly a field strippable bolt.

"One of the easiest" I can't really agree with, quite. That's model 70s and Kimber 84s and 8400s.

All that said, thanks for the info. I'm much more likely to consider a (pre-FG) remington.

I strip savage bolts all the time. I have a couple actions and several barrels, need to switch bolt heads and change firing pin protrution on some changeovers...tools...one allenkey. I don't see how the "military grade" or field stripable" arguments apply...if you really want to take your rifle apart, keep the tools in your pack.

Is a new tikka t3 a good rifle at a good Price? Yes

Would I personally buy that gun in 300 wsm, not a chance. Unless I was planning on flipping it for a few bucks. I'm not a fan of tikka, the short mags, the recoil, or really anything about that set up.

The shroud is your last defence against a ruptured case. A much less serious blown primer can and has turned the factory plastic shroud into a projectile. Sako added a steel skeleton on the A7 and the newer tikka model has a metal shroud.

The good news is there are lots of affordable aftermarket options for replacements.

I see. I'm assuming then that the upgrade metal shroud is also attached more securely?
