Question for Tikka haters and lovers

sorry but i cant resist to laugh on the tikka military grade .... that was the only company that accepted the technology transfer ... we are waiting for the report for the users of the tikkas as they did with the lee enfield ... and when i say so i meant the rifle in the komatik, in the boat etc ... with no cares at all ... we ll see how it goes ... i ve seen stainless tikka rusted after one week in the mountains so the result can be interesting for the so called rated military grade rifle ....

It to mentioned that only one model was built to military grade specifications...... and it wasn't the t3

The problem with Tikka is that they once made a great rifle (M55/65 etc.), then they made a very good rifle (M 558/658 etc.) and now they make a good rifle that suffers by comparison. However, the same is true of the current products of a great many gun companies.

re: prices. The way new gun prices are rising, I think it will soon be considered a "bargain" to buy any decent hunting rifle for under $1000 and any premium rifle for under $2000. Its still better to buy now... because these prices aren't coming down...ever.

Engineering for the sake of ease of manufacturing, which results in the desired cost reductions required for increased margins, is now a reality of our world.

I missed the "military grade" part and that is laughable. The tikka is a mid level hunting rifle nothing more, nothing less. It has several "engineered" short comings that really bother me. But I also see the attraction of them in that they are light, have decent triggers, the majority seem to shoot well, and can (could) be had for reasonable money. I despised them for years , but recently bought one to try some ideas on. We will see, but I think with a few small tweaks it will earn a spot in my safe.

And yet, they're issued by our country's military. Therefore, military grade. QED.

Well.... I would submit that since they had to design an entirely new rifle and charge a remarkably high price for it that, other than the newly designed ranger rifle, the rest of the line is not military grade by default...... so ya, QED... :)

Those fine men are the country's eyes and ears of the north, at the ready for missions in isolated areas that can't be covered by the rest of the Canadian Armed Forces.

As a quick update, I've met several of them. You'd be surprized at how capable and adaptable they are.

Absolutely, I meant no disrespect to them - Im very thankful for their service.

I should have known someone would try to twist my post....

I was a ranger, one of the parts of my service I am most proud of...... I served in gjoa haven...... don't worry about it DG, These guys know what they are and are proud of it.... your pic rings true.......

It's nice to see them better equipped and getting a bit of attention....... but I hardly consider them as a group able to judge what is Milspec versus what is not....... they have done damn well with their antique enfields to date, and if I had to guess, many of them wouldn't care to swap them out....... and don't want the "new fangled" rifles the average gunnut thinks they need......

I have similar guys in my hunt camp......
