Question for WWII Experts - Russian Sniper Related

The hunter in me says that wrapping ones rifle in fur is a bad idea, esp' when your fellow Stalingrad folks are starving...Look a bunny! :D

It's only a movie riddled with errors, but you must have wondered by now why Major Konig never had his rifle wrapped? Was the movie budget exceeded or they ran out "wrap" on the roll??? :runaway:

Arrogance! He was just that good.

Wrapping your rifle would not keep it warm. It is not a mammal and only produces heat when fired. Insulation would be useless. It is camo only.

Exactly. If you hunt up north in -40 C you keep your rifles outside, day and night, not indoors where condensation is going to rust and ruin them.

The Germans painted the K98's white or with whitewash for winter camo.

The camo used is an every-day article... the bags they kept corn, grains, and other commodities. A natural fiber that looks like burlap. Jute.
Some used old uniforms.... They were so abrasive, they would shave one's hair in a matter of hour is no long johns were worn underneath.

And yes, the photos were staged. All of them. It was unacceptable to promote the idea that regular soldiers should wrap their rifles too.
