I plan to buy a .22lr pistol in a near future. I have spot this gun, the Sig Mosquito. Question is: is this gun any good, is it very picky on ammo's?
In your opinion what is the best allaround .22lr pistol for the money? I am open to any sugestions.

There are actually already several threads on this. The leaders tend to be the Ruger above followed by the buckmark.

Quick search should turn up lots of info.

:)

If you are going to spend the money on a Sig Mosquito you might as well look into a p220 or p226 with the 22 kit from the factory, it gives you an option to upgrade to a centerfire in the caliber of your choice at a later date. questar had a deal going for these a while back.

Ruger MKIII all the way unless you like the black plastic look.

And don't let anyone tell you they are hard to field strip.

P&D in Edmonton usually has good stock.

the mosquito is picky about ammo, but after about ~500 rounds it settles down. i love mine :D

FWIW, I owned my Mosquito for one week and took it out once before I brought it back for a store credit. I wasn't able to shoot a single magazine without a hiccup. I tried various ammo through it including the 'recommended' CCI Mini-Mags. There are posts on other websites about the Mosquito and many aren't favourable. I'd check out the Ruger or Browning .22lr pistols or spend a little more and check out the Beretta 87T. YMMV......

All semi-auto .22's require you to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo the pistol or rifle will both shoot well and cycle the action. The price of said ammo means nothing either. .22's are just like that.

A Ruger 22/45 is a good option. Affordable and reliable. There is one made with a 4.5" slab side bull barrel and fixed sites. I got mine for $284 before the currency jump. I think Ellwood Epps has them at a higher price now.

No. My Buckmark's eaten everything I've fed it, Eley, Federal, CCI, no hiccups.

The mosquito very expensive...just add few bucks and you can buy Glock 17
I wouldnt spend more than $300 on 22LR
Ruger is one from the cheapest and has a good reputation

I have owned both the Ruger Mk III bull barrel and the Sig Mosquito for about two years. Love them both. The III is much more accurate of course because of its longer barrel. I also have a red dot sight mounted on it sometimes. No matter what ammo. you put in it, it RARELY fails to feed properly. Lovely gun. I also love the Sig but it MUST have the minimags, nothing else is a steady feed. Not nearly as accurate (I shoot it an no more than 15 yards, often 7) because of it sight length. But it's more fun if you want to pretend you're shooting centerfire. So, as I said, I have both, love both. Two very different animals. Wouldn't sell either, or be without either.

Then again, something with a kit to change between centerfire and .22, now that is a great idea. CZ does it, and who else....?

I've owned one of these for about 20years.... my ONLY complaint is the sharpe edges where the cocking piece meets up with the rear of the receiver.

Sorry pdubois64 I 'jacked your photo

Been pinched/cut a few times... Damn near bled to death after a hasty reload at one of acrashb's .22 clay shoots :D

I suppose I could de-horn the gun or... 'just be more careful when cocking it.

Just to be different, I'm going to suggest the K22 Masterpiece (or Model 17) from Smith and Wesson. I know it isn't as ###y as a Sig, but it sure as hell can shoot. It also will hold its value - down the road you can sell it and get almost what you paid for it. Not my picture, but you get the idea...

I think the Ruger is better for quality and shoots very nicely with no problems , but i also enjoy my mosquito. 500 rounds or so with cci mini-mags and it runs great... although needs to be striped and cleaned more then the Ruger i find...
