Fellas my question to you is how many of you would feel comfortable hunting game up to Moose size with cast bullets in .366 and .375 calibers.
The bullets would be around 280 to 300 grains gc flat noses and or hollow points.
I will appreciate any input from EXPERIENCED hunters.
Thank you.
Victor .

I don't comment usually but, FFS read a little. And use a howitzer. I`ll probably get banned.

It is because of reading a lot and not little about people hunting with cast bullets that I am asking this question, and when I asked i asked the opinions of the EXPERIENCED hunter's with this kind of bullets .
And yes you should refrain from commenting period.

Just think back a couple hundred years about what hunters had for equipment. We are still here so it is obvious that our ancestors ate meat and caught it using muzzle loaders with lead round balls so if you're using a modern type cast bullet and modern cartridge you're going to have meat for sure.

I'm not sure what appeal a cast bullet has or in what application (using the 9.3x62 or 375 H&H) where they would perform in a more advantageous way than a jacketed bullet? Can drive 'em as fast or you lead the #### out of your barrel, cant punch through stuff as well (assuming you're in the punching through stuff game...don't face-shoot Dumbo with them, for sure)...about the only thing I can think of using cast in my Wagner for would be cheap practice ammo.

Remembering, of course, that .36 caliber rifles were called "squirrel guns". Our ancestors also walked or rode horses and died by age 50. The good old days weren't always thus.

when you say "up to moose" ..... what animal will be the primary game you will be hunting with it? squirrel, coyote, wolf, deer, Bear, swamp donkey?
shot placement is key. you can also play with alloy type and bullet design ( hollow point), make a softer point bullet to deform Vs fragment etc.
can definitely kill a moose with it.
i know of someone that hunts moose and bear with cast bullets in a 270 with great success, shot placement is important.

I would think that the hardness of the lead would be a big factor in bullet performance. i.e. use soft lead at low speed, add more tin to the mix if you want to up the velocity. You would have to experiment to see what works best for your specific application. (wet newspaper is a cheap and available test medium.) Good luck and let us know how it works for you.

That makes no sense to me... some cartridges lend themselves well to cast loads... the .270 ain't one of them... not that it can't be done... it just doesn't make sense.

Look guys i do appreciate you telling me how much better off i am if i choose for instance Nosler partitions, A-frames, ttsx, tsx, accubonds , Woodleighs ,Normas , Lapuas and so on.
What i am thinking it's me hunting Moose with my own cast bullets , that would give me great satisfaction.
Is it the ideal bullet? Of course not but that is what i am planning on doing. i'm not shooting black death, i'm shooting a Moose at a max range of 150 yds.
what made me decide this was this year's Moose hunt where i had the chance to watch 3 bull Moose in front of me for half an hour feeding at 50 yds.
I think that would have been an easy kill even with a cast bullet and very satisfying to me if i had harvested that Moose with a bullet that i made myself.
Would you feel comfortable enough to shoot a Moose at a max distance of 150 yds with a .375 bullet weighing 295 grs and a muzzle velocity of around 2300 fps? That is my question.
When i say comfortable i mean a clean kill.
Victor.
