Question: M&P22 how are they compared?

For me its a no-brainer. SR22 is non-restricted. M&P is restricted.

It would be a frosty friday before I spend money on a range toy when I can have something awefully similar that I can take anywhere.

SR22 is the business - shot both, they are equally fun "shooting wise" but the SR22 can go anywhere without an ATT and with a few mods becomes quite the nice machine!

It's very heavy too (with rails especially), moreso than my 870 express tactical with the tube extension on it.

I have enough "woods legal" .22's that are fun enough. I'm gonna buy one of these , and next year get an sr22. These have gotten way too many good reports for me not to buy one. The range is where I shoot the majority of my rimfire anyhow. I shot about 14000 rounds last year at the range, and maybe 100 while out in the woods. Its a no brainer for me. I dont fill rocks and trees with lead while I'm out hunting. My acquaintence (soon to be best friend ......!) just bought one, and he said it is the slickest gun he has owned and shot since he started shooting as a kid. I might just have to call him today.........

shoots excellent, very accurate, field stripping is the same like a real AR

i agree. ran 2000 plus rounds through it already and still works like a charm. i didn't like the magazine release on the SR22, and the chamber does not hold open after the last round. (the bolt release on the M&P22 work like a real AR...if that's the training area you want to go into).

The sr-22 is a ruger 10-22 in ninja clothes with all the same manual of arms that comes with the ruger 10-22. The m&p 22 is externally an accurate reproduction of an AR, internally it shares little. The only thing i'd avoid is overly aggressive gunfighter style IA drills because you might break the charging handle. However given that all controls are in the same spot and function the same as the real deal it's the perfect trainer and as a bonus you get full cap mags.

 BINGO ! I TOO have enough 10/22's to carry anywhere . --The SR-22 is still a dressed up 10/22 !
Restricted or not the M&P 15/22 was just TOO cute to a fault to pass up, has very few few malfunctions, (albeit ammo sensitive) & it is especially great to have around when running out of 5.56 ammo at the range.
Haven't used it as such , but would be an excellent "trainer" for anyone not yet uninitiated to it's full sized big brother.

my sr-22 with mods and rails has a very similar weight to my ar-15,
it looks and feels like an ar, the high cap mag's look silly but a drum makes it look better. i handled the M&P and the vtr, but i went with the sr. don't have any experience with the colt, but non restricted wins for me,

I use the M&P mainly because when we are on the handgun range where the .22 rifles are allowed one can gear up with the same tac vest that i use on my LMT. The mags fit perfectly so when im running around practicing all my movements stay the same and i can incorporate handgun while running scenarios.
