Good day all,
I'm playing with some formula to check twist rate and best bullets weight using manufacture ammo.
I know this is a reloading forum, but I still think that you can give me the answers I'm looking for.

What are the specs for the bullet itself?
dia : 0.311 / 0.312 "
Length 150gr: ????
Length 180gr: ????

I can easily find Casing information, but bullet are harder to find, or I'm not looking at the wright place.

thank-you all for your quick reply.
John.

OMG.....finding the right load for a 303 is an open playing field...to many factors other than twist and bullet length.I would buy a box ,shoot ,buy another brand,shoot...you will start to see a trend.I have 303s that will group under an inch with .308 bullets, one that hates 311 dia bullets, but likes .3105...the list goes on..It is good that you are aware of the mechanics behind it,but I sometimes feel,in this case, trial and error will speak more....but then again, you might be a geek and like to work the numbers...to each their own...I just like to shoot...LOTS!!!

The .303 Lee-Enfield is probably the modern rifle with the most variation in its chamber (and to a somewhat lesser degree) and bore. Some of this can be chalked up to war-time expediency, although some claim that it was deliberate to allow the rifle to work well with muddy or off-tolerence ammo. For whatever reason, it's real and you can only be sure of the bore diameter by slugging the barrel.

Most .303s do pretty well with commercial ammo, which is what I think you are considering, although some brands will certainly do better than others for any given rifle.

As to bullet length, that's difficult to answer as much depends on the bullet profile. You could have two bullets of the same weight, both quality stuff, with quite different lengths. FWIW, here are lengths of some .303 bullets on my shelf:

.311" Sierra 150 gr Spitzer: 1.028"
.311 Sierra 180 gr Spitzer: 1.180"
Old .312" Winchester 180gr PP: 1.185"
