Question on bullets I just bought.

I have been running the Hornady V-max 55gr in my 22-250 with IMR 4895.
Today I bought Winchester 760 powder and Hornady Varmint 45gr HP/BEE.
When I got home, I noticed these 45`s are way shorter yet the charts call for the same OAL. There will only be 0.090 into the cartridge where as the V-max 55gr are 0.405 into the cartridge. Plus the 45`s have a crimp mark half way up the bullet and won`t be anywhere near the case neck.
The OAL of the v-max bullet is: 0.815
The OAL of the Varmint is: 0.496
I`m debating on making the 2 hour round trip and see if they will exchange for something similar to the V-max`s.

On the Hodgdon site, they don`t show different kinds of 45gr. You can only pick 45 and this is what comes up.

at least that's what I always thought, 22 hornet
there could be more to this, I know looking at 223 options I have always thought that 45gr HP/BEE bullet was for the hornet. I always wondered about that 45gr bullet I see loaded in the 223 Winchester factory ammo I see at Canadian Tire. I don't shoot factory ammo so I don't know but that load has a hollow point as well if I remember correctly

You do remember correctly. That is what I asked for. The factory Winchester bulk pack (40pcs at 45gr) is the JHP. Wonder if my local gunshop would do me a favor and trade these for something that will work for my needs in a 45gr. Can anyone tell me what the factory winchester 22-250`s come as a bullet? Yes I know "jacketed hollow point", but the brands are all different. I want something that is a very close match.
 
The .218 bee was loaded in lever actions,hence the really flat nose.
Since you are out a bunch of gas money anyway you should see if you can
get them to disintagrate on the way to the target.

For the "very little they will be seated in the neck"....ummm no thanks. It might be different if it was only 5-10, but a 100....nawww I already got stuck makin 90 rounds of "gopher shot" out of the Sierra Varminter 45 gr which my gun hated and puked out sideways and every other direction the puketile ended up. lmao
 
Well - Why the pre-occupation with published COL? Load them to the cannelure (thats what its there for) with minimum powder charge, and have at it. You may be surprised.

The Sierra`s were loaded with IMR 4895. I am trying my best to duplicate the factory Winchester 45gr JHP`s. Thus, I bought a pound of Winchester 760 powder and asked for the same 45gr bullets but was sold these and never noticed till I got home.
As for seating up to the crimp, that would throw the documented pressure out the window. I guess a guy would have to really keep a very close eye on pressure signs working up the loads. Not that you don`t watch anyhow with all loads, but a little more.

If your 22-250 can shoot the winchester 45gr. jhp's I think I should shoot the others ok, it could be just a question of working out a load. I believe I had chronied those 45's (win white box)to about 4000 fps second so if you can duplucate that with your's then you might find a good group. Mind you not all bullets can be pushed that fast and come apart before hitting the tartget. Im not sure what your Sierra and Hornady 45's are rated to. Try sending the manufacturer an email.

Well - The documented pressure is already out the window when you started way back when.
1) The reason you start out a min load is to give yourself a 20% margin on pressure, so you dont get into trouble.
2) The reason the cannelure is there is to give you guidance for seating the bullet.
