Question on choosing a Trap gun

This is way OT and I am sorry for this but I was wandering around the Perazzi site after Win/64's link and two things came to mind.

#1) Perrazi shotguns are out of this world beutifully made and stocked shotguns very
nice and out of my league, but in my mind forever now.

#2) If a person gets an extra super grade 12ga they can have it very well engraved
with naked ladies, tigers and game birds. Wow! :) :)

Sorry for the interruption now back to our helpful discussion on trap guns. Sorry.

The base model Perazzis while not cheap are far less expensive than those with ultra fancy wood, custom engraving and gold inlay. If I wanted (and could afford) all the fancy trimmings I'm not sure a Perazzi would be my first choice. I'd be looking first to FAMARS.

I don't think Famars makes a Trap model. Do they?

P-guns

Shoot one and you will know why it is better. Matter of fact just hold one and you will know why. And you don't have to buy new at $10,000 find a nice used one. I would rather own and shoot a 30 year old Perazzi than a new Beretta or Browning.

I shot a brand spanking new one on sunday and have shot many other
P-guns as well, along with Krieghoff's,Bowens,Ljutic's and Kolars. I still don't know why they are better, I can inkball a target with my Browning Citori Plus just the same as any of the others. With that said my next target gun will probably be a Kolar not because they are better, but because they are the only new gun with adjustable ribs that I like the feel of. If Browning brings back the plus system on a Citori I'll buy two but untill that happens I keep mine as long a possible.

Now regarding your comment on the olymipic medals, if you believe the guns won the medals that explains alot. I'll bet that it had a whole lot to do with a Perazzi sponsorship and the country of origin funding the training. I'll ask you if they are the best why doe's Leo Harrison shoot a Beretta not a Perazzi?
Regards

If Browning brings back the "plus" system you will need two. When the rib falls of the first one you can use that one till the rib comes loose on it.

I had a citori plus trap, saw an awful lot of shells I was the 4th owner and its nick name at the club was the klanger because of that spring loaded rib vibrating when it was shut, everyone was always offering to put a little silicone or something to stop the vibration but I liked it. Regret selling it, but I was a financially poor shooter then, who had to sell one to get another one.

Mine has had enough shells through it to turn 2 perazzi's into scrap metal and yet has no loose ribs or has it fallen off? My guess is operator malfunction. Its also a combo which means it has twice as many ribs as usual yet none have fallen off.

How many spare trigger groups/firing pins/ejectors/springs do you have to keep your perazzi working?

For starting out a Remington 1100 Trap should work for you. There are lots of them in the used market at very reasonable pricing. You can always trade up if you like something better.

Then why do you want a Kolar? If your Browning is so amazing.

I would recommend steering well clear of Famars. We have just sent three to Europe to have the barrels resoldered. Famars has ignored all requests for warranty coverage, would no consider taking the guns in for inspection and repair and has ignored requests to reimburse the work done. Also the gunsmith sent us pictures of the original barrel solder which was done so poorly it was hard to believe it was not a cheap Turkish assembly job. The gun pictured cost $16,000

SXS barrel with rib. Note uneven and poor coverage of solder.

Barrel just after seperation. Poor soldering job allowed air and moisture between barrels causing corrosion.

Damn. That is awful. Thanks for letting me know.

Back to Perazzi I guess. Maybe I should start saving for an MX28. :)

If you read the whole post you wouldn't have to ask me that. If you actually shoot a gun constantly you will find they eventually wear out, regardless of maker.

Why not just buy another Browning then? Or is it because Kolar is better?

Does Browning make a trap combo with adjustable ribs and matched weight on both barrel sets? No they don't, so obviously I can't buy a Browning replacement for my plus combo. That leaves me with Kolar,Krieghoff,Perazzi or a Caesar Guerini and of those options the Kolar is the only one I like the feel and appearance of. So I guess that makes it better than the rest?

"doubleman" I read a post on trapshooters.com regarding a Kolar for sale at the Canadians in Calgary. I have the gentlemans contact info if you want to PM me.

You are on the right track with a BT. They are the best gun for the money spend and easy to resell if needed. Not much recoil if you are using light target loads. If the recoil is an issue then get a semi of any kind. Most important is to get a gun that fits. Most guys will let you try their guns if you ask. Dont get a real expensive one to start with - the gun wont shoot any better than you do.
