Hi folks,
I have a question for you learned people about switching a Lee Pro1000 from 9mm to .40 S&W.
I read that the shell plate for both calibers is the same. I also read that I can swap turrets out and keep my dies adjusted the way I want. What I find confusing is the case feeder. Do I need to swap out the entire thing or just change the bar from straight to "Z" bar?
Would it be cost effective to change the entire shell plate/holder etc. or should I look at investing in a whole new press?
Thanks for any info/advice,
Glen

i can't comment in regards to converting them, but i do own 3 of them setup for 9mm, 45acp and 38/357mag. i bought them all used and $150 or less, it's just easier to leave them setup as is once you find a nice target load. i will upgrade later on but for now it works just fine.

When I had the Pr01000 I loaded for 3 calibers - 9, 40, 38 - and had complete turrets for each caliber, but I also had the carriers for each.

The different Z bar is used for 45ACP.

I changed to a Dillon 1050 and load for 4 calibers on that. 4 complete toolheads for that too.

If its the same shell plate, and you have all the dies for both calibers, I would just invest in a turret head. And if thats the route you will take, let me know, I have about 6 extra, and I wont need them all.

I'm lazy and reload 5 different calibers and therefore have 5 different Lee Pro 1000 presses, all of which always have some powder and primers in them so its really quick to get started. I dont reload 2 calibers with the same shell plate or I would do them both on 1 press with a quick turret swap.
