Question on Dominion Grizzly 8.5" shotgun action release button

I just got my new Grizzly 8.5" shotgun from CanadaAmmo and noticed that you can cycle the pump (unloaded) without pressing the action release. After the first pump, the release button is now locked and needs to be pressed if you need to cycle the shotgun repeatedly. Is this normal on this shotgun? From what I've seen on some videos, initially the pump should be in a locked position (if it is unloaded) where you need to press the action before you can cycle the pump. Any help or info will be greatly appreciated.

If the hammer is cocked, the action is locked.

Thank you for the info. Yes, once it is in the cocked position, then the action is locked. Is this how they were design to function? I thought I could have gotten a defective one.

Yes, it's normal.

It would be a pain to operate if the action stayed locked after the shot.....
