Okay, I originally intended to get a glock 19 as my first restricted. I later discovered its barrel length was under the legal limit in Canada, so I went with the glock 17.
Apparently the glock 19 is still attainable, but it has to have the longer barrel protruding from the gun. I've seen prices on these legal glock 19's and they are quite a bit more expensive than the glock 17's... Why is this? are handgun barrels that expensive?
I really like the feel of the glock 19 and would still love to get it, but I was wondering if there was somewhere they were cheaper?

If you guys have any info regarding the glock 19, be sure to let me know, thanks!

They're more expensive because an aftermarket barrel needs to be installed to make the legal in Canada.

Want a cheaper one? Only in the US.

The only reason I was interested in the 19 was because it felt a little more comfortable in my hand. Don't get me wrong, I love my glock 17... I just prefer the size of the 19.

But judging from what Stevo posted, I guess I'm outta luck unless I wanna spend the big bucks.

The balance and size of the pistol is the only difference from a 17. It's not that much either. Given the extra cost you are much better off with your 17...

G19+barrel+importation... Makes for an expensive gun...

I don't like the feel of a g17, and thought that I would not like the g19 either... But they do feel very different in hand,at least for me anyways... Have a g19 and I love it...

There are some in the EE, keep your eyes peeled...

No question, I agree with Bakercakes. The G23 I owned for short time fit my hand much better than my G17 or G34. It's weird because the frames are more or less the same shape, but the shorter ones have less of a "hump" than the full-size. Oh, and JBD, I agree with Stevo--please let us know that the G26 you bought already had a restricted-length barrel.

Please tell me you didn't take a 12(6) G26 and make it restricted.

You can not buy a new 12.6 gun that is illegal, no new 12.6 can be registered in the system. The only 12.6 available are grandfathered from 1998 and before.

I ordered an glock 26 new from police ordinance. They have them as they provide firearms to police and military agencies who are not governed by the firearms act. Then I had the shop swap the barrel with a restricted length and register the gun restricted.

No existing 12.6 were harmed in support of my hobby.:)

If you really want to get phillosophical about. According to my limited research there are only 6 glock 26 12.6 in Canada. This gun was never intended for private ownership. By rebarreling it, it has been freed to be enjoyed by gun enthousiasts.

probably the best price out there.

My comments in red:

I'm well aware of that.:)

Cool, I didn't know PO would do that.

Rebarrelling a new gun is awesome. Taking an extremely valuable 12(6) G26 and making it restricted would be like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa.;)

My G19 just after I bought it:

intresting, so someones bringing prohib firearms, then converting them to restricted.
Sure glad its not me doing that, but i guess when you sell to the police you can get away with anything...... :)

Thats a sweet lookin gun Stevo, it also looks like your kid knows what he doing

Thanks. The gun's okay, my son is the best.

He does know what he's doing. He's got more professional training under his belt than 90% of Canadian handgun owners.:) Not bad for a 12 year old.
